It's not an FML everytime someone doesn't feel exactly what you want them too. He handled it kindly and directly. Pull yourself together and find another crush so you don't lose this friend.

I dont understand why women think that men will just fall over for them at the slightest hint of romantic feelings. The world doenst revolve around you, at least the dude didnt blow you off completely.

It could be that he was in love with you for years, and dropped hints and wanted more, and you never noticed, so he finally gave up and put you in the friend zone and moved on and now it's too late.
