That’s no problem. Marrying first cousins is controversial, but legal in some states. Beyond that, there’s no legal or genetic reason to avoid someone.

How distant? Technically, you are distant cousins with everyone. The only differences are how distant and knowing the specific relationship.

Considering that we all can all have our heritage back to mitochondrial Eve then we are all distant cousins. The relationship depends on how distant you are. As long as you are not first or second cousins then you are getting into safe territory.
