Today, I was supposed to be enjoying a long-anticipated, desperately needed, weekend away. Turns out those "little stomach twinges" were actually symptoms of appendicitis. I'm stuck in the hospital, alone, recovering from surgery, while my family is enjoying our non-refundable break. FML

Yeah, the same thing happened to me. They caught me only a day or so before it would've ruptured. My Uncle had it worse off and was in a plane when his ruptured. Although, sounds like you caught it relatively early and it didn't rupture. Could be worse, I suppose. (on a side note, is it just me or is being knocked out for surgery worse than the operation itself. It's so creepy feeling!)

So just because OP can't go, the rest of the family is supposed to opt out as well? It's non-refundable. If no one goes then it's just a gigantic waste of money.

That's a tough break. But at least it didn't happen on the holiday and ruin the fun for everyone else as well.

I dunno, I think it would ruin my fun if I went on a vacation without someone I was supposed to, and having to worry about their health on top of that.

If that was someone I cared about I honestly would just keep them company in the hospital, could never relax enough to enjoy my vacation knowing the situation.

Wow, that's gotta be hard to stomach.

really you need to crack a pun when OP's in the hospital in pain :/ (i never had a operation like that but i expect its atleast uncomfortable)

the docs caught my nephdws just minutes away from rupture and it was horrible. he nearly died. so for those of you trying to make a joke out of OPs problem - wait your turn bc karma is a bitch and she'll butt f*** you with no lube and a pinecone. not even spit. I'm sorry OP. get well soon.

I can't by believe they went after knowing you needed surgery. Sorry but that is a shitty family you are part of. Get better soon

It's non-refundable and OP probably told them to go anyway. She didn't want anyone else's vacation ruined because she was sick. I can't imagine vacation being much fun though when you're worried about someone you care about who's in the hospital.

What would those family members be going if they stayed home? Just sit around in the hospital, watching TV with you? Don't make then feel bad when they return.

There's nothing to indicate that she would make her family feel bad... She mostly feels bad for herself. Who wouldn't, after missing out on a non refundable vacation and being in a hospital instead? It's kinda mean that you basically are saying that being with OP while in the hospital is boring and her family is better off vacationing. They probably just went so the money wouldn't go to waste, but I'm sure that if they were a loving family, they would have preferred to be there for her. I know I would.

Someone has seen Pitch Perfect one too many times.

Hey, at least you have room service.

Room service isn't much comfort if it's hospital food. Then again, idk what hospital food is like anywhere but where I live. Maybe OP's hospital serves better grub.

It sucks but at least you're OK. Appendicitis has nasty complications. Get well soon!
