Today, I was trying to change my PIN code in order to make my phone more secure and prevent people from getting information from it. Instead, I somehow ended up locking my phone permanently. FML

I've done that before, it's not something that was in the manual for me. If you call your service provider though they usually give you a code to unlock it again. Just don't try guessing that too otherwise your phone will permanantly lock up and you have to mail it in.

The same thing happened to me...it's probably not permantenty locked. You probably fried your SIM card. It's like $30 to get a new one.

Mine got fixed for free. I called the customer service guy and said, "My phone is broken. And Oprah is coming to eat you. If I don't get my phone fixed, I won't be able to order enough cows to satisfy her hunger. Nothing will remain of you." My phone worked before I was able to tell him the model number. Much succes. But he was still eaten. But at least my phone works, right?

@52 not all phones take sim cards. Sprint doesn't for example. The OP should definitely call their service provider to get their phone fixed, and probably should have in the first place so that the representative could walk them through it. FYL OP, it was a simple mistake, but my phone is my lifeline so I feel for you.

I used to work for a wireless company (sprint) this is actually a really easy fix. take the phone to a corporate store with repair technicians and they will unlock it or reset the phone. you may lose your contacts, but if you locked an iPhone it will be backed up on your iTunes.

yeah, number 52 is right. I've done this before. don't keep trying to guess the code. call the company and they will give it to you. if you failed the code too many times and locked yourself out, it means you fried your sims card and will have to replace it. sorry for your bad luck op:/

FYL. You should read the manual first, and write your password in a paper and keep it in a secure place so that you wouldn't forget your password too. Just in case.

yes I've done this before with an old phone. I locked my sim card and found out I had to call my provider for an unlock code. then they told me to go buy a new sim card.

Here in the UK nearly everyone gives out free SIM cards - O2 have adverts all the time where you text them a code and they send you up to five free SIM cards in the post <3
