Today, I failed my trigonometry exam because my scientific calculator was on the wrong setting. FML

You had it set to "radian" when you wanted "degree" am I right?

Hahaha. And you didn't notice this at all...Shame on you, not the calculator.

"The Marr's Probe crashed today because some idiot tech used feet rather than meters on a thrust calculation. 10 billion wasted. " Math is supposed to be exact, or it means nothing--Idiot.

I meant check the calculator settings. Idiot

Lol, 19. My mom beat me and called me a failure. Does that count for the same?

YDI, Lesson 1 is make sure you have your calculator in Radians.

#63, that's not your calculator's fault. You should have put in parentheses (-2)^2 if you wanted the negative to be included. If you don't then it will assume that you want to input -(2)^2.

61 he could've been using sine, cosine, etc. so thus he might have needed to put it in degree mode. You may be right, but I just want to put another senario out.

#63- You were just trying to square "-2"?? Can't people do that in their heads nowadays? /: That kind of scares me.

63 he was probably just using it as an example, you don't need to attack him.

In my day we didn't have trig. Come to think of it, we didn't have calculators either! I think if I search the attic, I can find my abacus. ;)

haha happened to me last year. i taking a test about sine cosine and all that, then the calculator gave me a negative answer which is impossible to get, right? then i whispered to my friend beside me and she said it has to be on degree. thank God . lol just saying! :)

It's an honest mistake, really. I bet OP had degrees instead of radians or vice versa

OP's probably going to fail that test anyway if he can't figure out that his calculator's been set wrong.

you mean graphing calc? cause you cannot graph trig functions or use many symbols needed on a scientific calculator.

dude sine and cosine are on scientific calcs. and obviously he wasn't graphing anything because of course he would have used a "graphing" calculator.

No, that's a "OP = Dumbass" fail. Anyone who knows anything about trig is aware of the significant difference between degrees and radians.

if it makes you feel any better, I just got a 95 on my calculus test with my calculator on the right setting.

why's he getting negative votes? he only wants to see more Lilly

it's not off topic... because ppl at school will change settings on calculators... just to be a butt... so yea

113 f*ck off prick she's cute n ur like a rose u needa watch out for the pricks

that's exactly what I was thinking. If you didn't notice that the answers you got were kind of strange you probably would've failed anyway.

Agreed. I've been in that situation. I had to change the settings a lot since I took physics and calculus the same year. You should typically be able to tell when it's off.

Agreed...I've also been in multiple classes at the same time that generally use different settings, and there were many homework assignments or exams/quizzes that I started in the wrong setting, but realized as soon as I got a really odd looking answer. I can totally understand not remembering to check the setting, but if you couldn't tell once you started getting answers...you either weren't paying very much attention (bad idea during a test) or you don't really understand what you were supposed to learn...

Agree with this, once you get into more advanced trig problems it's a good idea to check answers by calculating them in both degrees and radians.

ydi for not checking the settings of your calculator for a maths exam! maths is all about the calculator. one wrong punch of numbers will lead you to failure.

Schizomaniac 24

no worries! I know of the math and maths controversy around here.. I would prefer maths though :)

hnz, it's "has their own fml" not "have". (your profile desc). :)

will do. I will change it next time when I'm on the computer

Well now I think he kinda deserves it. That difference is so obvious, and if he had a clue what he was doing he would've known.

perdix 29

I was going to say that, but I'll bet the real reason is that he was holding it upside-down, typing in things like 1.145 and 58008618 while giggling madly.

It should have been obvious after the first answer. OP doesn't sound bright.

Same thing on my geometry calculators, I never forget though

It’s probably the other way around. Trig is usually done in radians.

not even worth posting on FML...feels like a wasted 2 seconds reading it.

Sorry if the op didn't post that his grandmas throat was slit and his parent died in front of him in a double suicide. Jeez dude do all fmls have to be massive **** My Life moments before it can be considered an FML. This site is supposed to be about lifes average failures so we can get a good laugh.
