Today, my eldest son told me he wishes he lived with his dad. This after I, two years ago, managed to get myself and my children out of the abusive situation we were in. Why? He didn't want to tidy his toys. FML

Today, I drove my two kids to their friends' houses. In my convertible, looking what I though was my best, I slowed down outside a bar with cute 20 year old girls in front. My daughter noticed the speed reduction and said, "Keep driving dad, you're fat and mom left you for a reason." FML

Today, I told my son and daughter that their father and I were getting a divorce. They each responded with something like, "Yay! I want to live with Daddy! He buys better presents!" Their father has literally never bought anything for them, one of the many reasons I'm divorcing him. FML

Today, I explained to my 5 year old daughter that her older sister from my husband's first marriage lives with her mommy, and my daughter lives with us. She exclaimed, "It's not fair! I want two mommies like she has! Can we swap, I like her mommy better than you anyway!" FML

i don't think you're a bad parent. when i was little, i asked my mom why she had married my dad because he was so ugly. he was also standing right there. as i got older i realized how much more attractive my dad is than my mom. its a mood thing, don't take it personally.

i'm so sorry for you. divorces can be tough- when my parents were going through the divorce me and my sister treated her like crap. now we are both closer with her than ever, and realized we only said those things because my dad influenced us to dislike her.

Yea do what 47 said. and make sure your husband tells them something like "She was so sad that you guys didn't love her" or something. That's what a kid would feel like/do, so they would understand it. I would know, i'm a kid >:} mmm they love their dad moar because you are a better parent, he's the fun parent. Same with me. but my mom has a uterus, too. she's a bitch when she is PMSing

it's your job as a parent to teach your kids not to be assholes. they may not have meant anything serious by those remarks, but yeah, your life will be effed until you teach them what kind of shit they can and cannot say to an adult.
