Today, I told my girlfriend of eight months that if she didn't start taking my band's music seriously, we couldn't see each other anymore. She said fine, and I hugged her, but then she stood up and said 'I hope we can still be friends,' and walked out the door. FML

I think I'm going to have to agree with the few going against the YDIs. He never said that she had to like his music, just take it seriously. You know, support him and his band. I really don't think that's asking much. If I had a boyfriend in a band, I'd definitely respect the fact that it was his passion and show my support, even if I didn't particularly care for the music. You can't really say either way if he deserved it or not. She might've been a complete bitch and blew off his gigs, laughed at his band while they practiced, told him that he was wasting his time, etc. Of course, she could've also been completely nice about it and he just didn't like that she hated his music, in which case, he definitely deserved it. Hard to tell with just a few hundred characters.

He issued the ultimatum so he deserves it. If he wasn't prepared for her potentially choosing to leave, he shouldn't have included it in the ultimatum. He could have said something else.

You can't honestly give someone an ultimatum & expect it to go your way, because most of the time it won't. If you'd threatened me that way, I'd have walked out too. You deserved it.
