The Great White North comes to FML
Hello everyone! How was your week? Terrible? Great, because it's Saturday (night fever ?!) and once again, all we need is (love ?) to provide you a new comic and an artist to go with it. Today’s no exception and so we're welcoming Sandy from the great white north. We hope you're not maple syrup intolerant because here comes Sandy's interview!
-What's your name and surname?
-How old are you?
-Where do you live?
-Miami, Manitoba, Canada
-What do you do for a living?
-Freelance artist / game developer
-What's your story?
-I’m old, so my story is long. I did a year of university, didn’t much like it, traveled for five or six years, spent four seasons tree planting, bicycled lots of interesting places and generally discovered the world. I got married, we had four kids, I started a small Flash games / animation company with my brother Robin the UberProgrammer (http://blog.debreuil.com/) and I’ve been doing that for the last ten years or so. We basically swing between contract work (programming, animation, illustration, etc) and working on our own projects (Xbox indie games, webcomic, electronics). We had a brief moment of fame doing a few series of animations and games for theRomp.com back in the day, and one of our earliest efforts has been viewed almost 30 million times on Newgrounds alone (http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/2318) It’s pretty dated now, but it was cutting edge back then. (NSFW, as was all Romp content).
-What are your projects?
-Xbox Live game development (this is our first release, we have a bunch more in the hopper, two very close to completion) This game, Sleepwalker, was mostly done over a weekend at TigJam in Winnipeg, although we spent another two weeks making levels and playtesting.
http://www.crowbarbenson.com/– It’s the webcomic I do, which I really like doing, even though it drives me nuts sometimes. I’d like to sound fancy and say it examines male relationships, brotherhood, and so forth, but really, it doesn’t examine anything. It’s just supposed to be mildly funny.
-Can you tell us about your blog/website?
-I started Crowbar Benson because A) I’ve always wanted to do a comic strip, B) I wanted to do more actual drawing and less ‘computer graphics’, and C) I thought it would make me rich (HA HA! Just kidding about C. )
-What inspires you?
-I get inspired by other graphic artists who can really draw. I’m a huge fan of some older coomics as well, Doug Wright, Bill Mauldin and a few others. I like movies a lot, but more for escapism and less for inspiration.
-What makes you laugh the most?
-Sitting in a hockey dressing room and listening to teammates BS. Helps if we’re drinking beer.
-Why did you choose this FML?
-Mostly because it always amazes me how hard people will fight for a used puck.
-Do you have your own FML anecdote that you can share us?
-I was at my daughter’s soccer game, and there were some kids fooling around with a soccer ball. One of them said ‘Make sure you don’t hit that old guy’. I turned around to see who the old guy was. Needless to say, there was nobody behind me.
Thanks for your participation Sandy!

If you want to be the next published artist, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org including a link to your website/blog/DA. But DON'T send your illustration right away! You need first to get in touch with Alice who will tell you what you have to do!
