Celeste's illustrated FML

Hello everybody. Do you know that it's been four years since we started doing the traditional illustrated FML on Saturdays? I can see that you, dear readers, have changed. Okay, maybe I've changed a little bit as well. But that's life, let's not get hooked on the temporary aspect of it. Am I getting too lyrical? Yes? My bad. The point is, change is the key to many things, including art, and our artist of the day has made it her specialty. Maybe you've seen her art around the world wide web lately; she draws grown-up versions of our beloved cartoon characters. And if you're not into cartoons, she'll delight you with her amazing sense when it comes to playing around with colors. Dear readers, I present to you...

-Hello everybody, I'm Celeste Pille! My dad called me "Celestial" as a child, but nobody sat me down and explained the concept of nicknames, so for the longest time I assumed my full name was Celestial and Celeste was the shortened version.

-How old are you?
-I'm 25 years old.

-Where do you live?
-Omaha Nebraska.

-What's your job?
-I'm working in the Social Media Management.

-What's your journey?
-My journey is largely yet to be determined and I'm learning to be comfortable with the uncertainty.

-What are your inspirations?
-My inspirations are the cartoon shows I grew up with. Fashion sketches. Faces.

-Do you read webcomics?
-I love Hark! a Vagrant

-Tell us more about your Tumblr.
-I started my art tumblr as a way to keep up the hobby of drawing. I only got a minor in art in school, so it was never my main focus, but I wanted to keep up the skill somewhat and educate myself in the ways of digital art. I like to give myself assignments and one of them was to take the Magic School Bus kids and draw them as though they grew up right along with me. That series really caught on and I've since moved on to Hey Arnold, Rugrats, and a swath of others. There's also a healthy dose of miscellaneous thrown in.

-How do you work?
-I like to sketch everything first with pencil on paper. For whatever reason, I'm pretty rotten at sketching from scratch on a computer. Something just doesn't compute for me. If I want to color a sketch I'll scan it in and color and shade it in Corel Painter Essentials 4. It's the basic program that came with my tablet, but it's what I taught myself on and works well for me.

-Why did you choose this FML story?
-I chose this one because I've always felt this website is a collection of anecdotes of the universe laughing at you, and since this girl ended up at a comedy club, I could literally draw her having a miserable time with the universe telling jokes at her expense. I also saw a good opportunity to draw a lot of faces, that's always fun!

  • That was a really great cartoon. You really captured the F'd-ness of the moment on the OP's face.
