and if the car was covered in snow and ice, OP might not have been able to get in. I like to clear off the snow around my door so when I open it the snow doesn't all fall in.

If you're not leaving why shovel the snow off your car in a snowstorm?

If it was the night before school or work, the OP may not have wanted to take the risk of the clumps of snow freezing overnight and sticking the windows and doors and wipers.

Today, I was aruguing with my wife. I wanted to get away from her so as an excuse, I was going to go out and shovel the snow around and ontop of my car. Some bastard already did it. FML
