Today, I was at my boyfriend's grandmother's house meeting her for the first time. I excused myself to the restroom and as I walked out of the room I heard her say, "You could do a lot better. She's fat." Then I heard my boyfriend reply, "I know." FML

Today, while having dinner with my boyfriend's family, his mom told me that it looks like I've gained quite some weight. When my boyfriend told her that this was a rude thing to say, she said it wasn't rude, just the truth. FML

Today, I went with my beautiful fiancée to tell her grandmother, who's a bit senile, that we got engaged. Her response, "I know he's very nice, but think about the chubby little ugly children he'll give you." This was followed by a recollection of her ex-boyfriends who would've fathered attractive kids. Today, I met my boyfriend's mother for the first time. She has early onset dementia, butt was a pretty OK day. All was going well until she looked at her son and said he was skinny, which admittedly he is quite skinny, but then looked me dead in the eye and said, "You need to lose weight." FML

Since you were meeting his grandma for the first time, that tells me that this relationship was new... And hopefully it's now over. He not only didn't stand up for you, he agreed with her. Time to find someone who deserves you, because he doesn't.

I met my boyfriends grandmother about 1½-2½ year after we started started dating/got together for real. Met his parents after ½-1 year. So it certainly doesn't have to mean that the relationship was new.

I would have told them both off and stormed out. His grandmother is very shallow and rude. Its sad how some people can grow to be old and still have not learned respect or not to judge a book by its cover.
