Today, I had a really big debate in my English Class about the legalization of weed. My group had to state reasons why weed shouldn't be legal and no one except me had prepared. My partner came to class totally stoned. Our group lost the debate. We got a F. FML

Just point to your friend & say-this is why. Case closed.

Team grading is as stupid as grading a debate is as stupid as debating the legalization of marijuana in school. Everyone knows what the teacher wants to hear anyway. But it's funny that your partner was stoned and the team arguing for the legalization of it won.

Its not the grade that makes it bad it is the reason why the grade is bad retards

Your stupid for not being stoned bich! I just ran out of my bud so I guess my a little on edge

The reason you lost the debate is because there is no good reason not to legalize weed!

PEOPLE MAKE SUCH A BIG DEAL OUT OF EVERYTHING. GOD.

It seems easy to me, you just had to point out that many drug users (including weed smokers) end up screwing up their lives and this has consequences for the rest of society (criminality, people on welfare, parents who can't take care of their kids...). Dismiss the fallacious arguments of the other team such as "alcohol is bad too and you don't argue for it to be illegal". Seriously, I don't see how you could fail that bad... Perhaps you were biased and could not imagine arguments, in which case you kind of deserved the mark (though your group mates did worse than you). (Oh and anyone telling me you don't screw your life by smoking weed, I'll introduce you to my friends from the 3 high schools I attended. Most of them dropped out or barely got their degree and are now struggling to stay in college, 5 girls got pregnant before turning 20, and only one of them is still with the dad (but not married, and he's not planning to marry her for now). 3 have a criminal record for theft/robbery. And most of them told me at least once "If weed was dangerous, it would not be legal in some countries and there wouldn't be so many people trying to legalize it here". Yep, kids smoke because they think it's harmless. Sure, some people can smoke weed reasonably and manage to do well in life, I'll give you that. But those people are FAR from being the majority, so that means they are only exceptions, nothing more and nothing less. Average people can't take care of themselves that well, and that's why the government has to step in. I don't want my kids smoking because they think it's harmless, I don't want any kids to raise themselves because their parents are stoned 24/7, I don't want my house to be robbed by a guy who can't get a job because he failed high school since he was smoking too much, and I don't want my taxes to be given to a single mother who had a kid because she was too stoned to use a condom and to know better than have sex with that complete stranger the night it happened. And by the way, I never smoked and I'm very happy in my life. Not even tobacco. Not even once. The only exception is second-hand smoking, which is unavoidable. And I am having fun too, I'm not a nerdy A+ student who studies all day and night. I entertain myself, I go out, I do stuff... Even when I suffered from a serious depression at 16 I found ways of entertaining myself. So the famous "You should have fun, smoke some weed" is beside the point for me. That being said, smoke all you want. I just hope you won't become a liability for society. If not, I'm fine with you.

1. You don't understand the medicinal value of cannabis at all. Marijuana used for chronic pain relief is often inhaled or smoked but for nausea some forms of cannabis used do not even have the mild hallucinogenic affects of THC. Cannabis OIL has been found to reduce tumor growth and cellular division and this again does not have the affects of THC. Drugs that numb the nervous system are not 95% bad; that would mean that all depressants (anxiety medication, anti seizure medications, sleep medications, etc etc) are 95% bad simply because they depress the CNS. Depressants are valuable drugs and THC is much more than a simple depressant. There are thousands of compounds in marijuana that could be useful in a clinical setting BUT it is exceedingly hard to get government approval to study the drug and its affects so we don't know about many of the other compounds and their possible benefits to society. If anything the medical implications of THC are extremely under stated. 2. Drugs are bad is a blanket statement that makes no sense. Drugs are innate objects without special powers. They are only good/bad depending on personal use. Cocaine has been used for various applications throughout history, and the leaves of the plant are consumed in a mildly stimulative tea in South America that has many positive qualities. Only when you take the plant and ultra refine it into cocaine powder is detrimental to one's health. Just growing out of the ground, the plant is not bad simply for being a drug. I'm sure since all drugs are bad you have never had an aspirin, and should you unfortunately be involved in accident you'll refuse antibiotics and morphine - since drugs are bad. 3. Im not sure how seeing your friends "fall to drugs" has anything to do with the legalization of marijuana. Is the fact that its illegal the only thing stopping your friends from falling into a life degenerate drug use? Legalization probably wont increase consumption, decriminalization in Canada and the Netherlands has actually led to decreased use (takes away the risk factor, making it less appealing to teens), and led to people using better qualities drugs (ones that weren't laced with other, more harmful substances). It also decreases the amount of people in jail, taxes used to keep those people in jail, and decreases criminal activity associated with marijuana's distribution.
