Today, I had a really big debate in my English Class about the legalization of weed. My group had to state reasons why weed shouldn't be legal and no one except me had prepared. My partner came to class totally stoned. Our group lost the debate. We got a F. FML

Team grading is as stupid as grading a debate is as stupid as debating the legalization of marijuana in school. Everyone knows what the teacher wants to hear anyway. But it's funny that your partner was stoned and the team arguing for the legalization of it won.

It astonishes me that people actually WANT to use weed, when it turns someone into a useless piece of flesh that can't form a coherent thought. The only people who want it legalized are the worthless lowlifes who would rather waste their lives on mind-altering drugs than be functional human beings.

Thats a really narrow and judgmental view of a relatively harmless substance. People who want marijuana made legal besides nonfunctioning lowlifes: some members of the medical community, advocates for people with chronic pain conditions, cancer patients, people suffering from depression and anxiety. Then there are logical adults who don't want legalize marijuana so they can use but want it legalized so we spend less money throwing people in jail for stupid things like possession (someone having a joint is not hurting anyone but themselves and i don't want to pay the cost for that person to have legal aid, a cell/bed/3 squares a day), spend less money on a phony war on drugs, less incentive for cartels to set up near the American border, AND it would clear the way for hemp growth in the USA. Hemp can be grown to make superior and cheaper paper than trees, strong fabrics and textiles, hemp seeds are a health food product and hemp can be used as a fuel source. Hemp is quick growing and actually helps impart nutrients in the soil, but it wont be legal as long as marijuana is illegal simply because of how closely related the two plants are.

Is there any legitimate reason why it should be illegal? It's less harmful than tobacco and alcohol. Pretty much all that keeping it illegal has done is provide funding for gangs.

Ouch, sorry to hear that. I absolutely HATED team grading. You're always getting dragged down by idiotic potheads, underage drinkers, and people who just plain don't give a damn. It should be survival of the fittest and these dregs of society don't deserve to bring down those who actually try.

First off, your partner FTW, because that sure as hell shoulda been you :) second off, weed is illegal because it promotes government jobs such as the DEA, penal system, etc. And drug cartels don't want it legalize cuz their goes all of their work. Alcohol companines, tobacco, lumber, cotton...the list goes on. If people want it legalized, then they'll stop bitchin' about it and start doing something about it. Go out into the street and smoke. Parades, protests, sit downs...the people have to demand it and they have to make it happen. Washington isn't going to ever change. The people in Washington can. I light up with the best of 'em, but I'm a pussy. I too have been hiding, afraid to just make a stand and say **** YOU.
