Today, at my wedding, the minister forgot to skip the "does anyone object?" part. My mother stood up and gave a lengthy reason, which caused my future in-laws to start shouting. It turned into a small riot, and no, we're not married now. FML

no cuz you see how they feel so why would you want them to be your family if they would start a riot at YOUR wedding over the fact that the preist didnt give them a chance to object

Agree! I eloped for this very reason 23 years ago. Still have a screwed up relationship with my parents over their bloody attitude about the love of my life... If all else fails, cut them out for a while. Hopefully then they may see some sense.

My step dad's mom bullied my mom into getting married at their cabin on a lake. My mom wanted to get married at Disneyland, but my step dad's mom called her up and said, "you can't elope." It's not eloping if you know about it.

Exactly what my husband and I did. There's nothing to screw up and since you're already married, they're forced to be respectful even if they don't want to be.

If you needed to prompt the minister to skip that part, you probably knew that your mom did not approve. You should have just gotten it done at City Hall.

Your mom may have ruined your life or saved your life. We don't know enough to say which is the case.

#14, not inviting the mother is often a hard trick to pull off. I'm really curious if the mother was really helping her daughter or just being a selfish bitch. I doubt the OP would tell us the truth.

The minister usually always says the "does any one object?" part. He forgot that they asked him not to. How else would he know he wasn't supposed too?

I don't know about most people but they never said that at my wedding and I didn't ask them not too. It's very old fashioned to ask if anyone objects in my opinion and I think it's rude. If someone really thinks you shouldn't get married they should bring it up before the special day! This FML frustrates me cause if everyone was yelling and it was total pandemonium I would just say forget this I hate you all throw down my bouquet and run off! Poor OP :(

#10, Somebody filmed this!

If don't if this is true or not, but you seemed to want to hear this. Making people happy is what I'm all about :D
