Today, as I was planning my impending nuptials with my fiancé, my sister jokingly told him it's not too late to call it off. He took her seriously and bailed. He won’t answer my calls. FML

I mean, realistically, not your fault at all. If he was gonna bail, he was gonna bail anyway, but I can imagine that explaining how that came to be did not go down well. Has he come back yet or did the wedding get called off?

So many possible reasons for this to happen: Fiancé might be just feeling nervous about such a big commitment and with a little time might return to plans. Bride might be obsessed by the wedding itself and Fiancé starting to feel like he’s just the man in the suit for the wedding. Fiancé might have decided that getting married is not for him and was struggling with when and how to get out. As bad as it is for couples to break up it’s way worse to get divorced with children and shared property in the mix. IF this was going to happen, better sooner than later.

Have you tried calling your sister? If she’s not answering, we’ll know the punch line of her joke.

Send him some thick wool socks for his cold feets.

Better now than at the altar. No need for the fancy wedding dress and hundreds of relatives. Just book an Elvis impersonator and a nuptial suite at Niagara Falls in case he changes his mind again and invite your closest friends in case he doesn't.

Thank her. If that’s all it took for him to bail, he was already on the way out. And better now than on your wedding day.

Better now than five years from now when you've got two cars, a mortgage, kids, and a dog together.

I'm sorry, OP. That sucks. I hope you didn't put any deposits down on vendors.

I think you mean venues. Vendors are people who sell things at a market or fair.

vendors are also the people who provide the flowers, food, and various other things for a wedding

Well, yes, vendors like caterers, a DJ/band, florists, etc., not to mention her dress and those of her bridesmaids.

A blessing in disguise. You may love each other, but now you know that he's not ready. This doesn't have to be the end of your relationship, but its a definite sign that something isn't right. I wouldn't blame your sister either, it was an innocent comment.
