Today, after a week of my new neighbor constantly yelling in his native language, I finally complained about the noise. Turns out that's just his normal talking voice. Goodbye sleep. FML

Maybe you could play loud music and when he complains tell him this is your normal listening volume you use to drown him out.

Rip, sleep...but still nicely ask him to try to fix it as it is affecting you. Its not impossible cause my dad had a similar problem and got it fixed through some voice exercise thing. Or spend some money on soundproof windows/ fix any cracks in the house. Hopefully you live in a house and not an apartment.

I hope earplugs are available!

Why to spoil relations with your neighbors for no reason, right? I mean if the problem is really genuine then OP can just suggest the neighbor for the voice therapy.

My housemate is exactly like this, he's shouting down the phone any and every hour of the day or night in his native language. He also slams doors, stomps about like an elephant (I'm on the ground floor and he's in the room directly above me on the first floor so it's REALLY loud) and makes really disgusting retching/coughing noises every morning that wakes me up. Wish I could move out but can't afford my own place yet >< I feel your pain OP, hopefully you have a short lease and can move out soon? Or perhaps invest in some earplugs for the time being, I've found they do help with the majority of noise.

Just start talking as loud as he does. He might see how annoying it is and then quiet down.

THAT'S SO FUNNY BECAUSE /MY/ NEIGHBOR JUST TALKED TO ME ABOUT KEEPING THE NOISE DOWN. I RECENTLY MOVED TO ALABAMA, AND I WA—OH… DUDE, NOT COOL.

Buy a couple of subs. Make his life hell too until he shuts up.

learn their language and yell it back louder at them to assert your dominance

Kind of like barking back at your dog when it starts barking?

I honestly wish I could speak dog.

At least he's not getting offended that he came to your country and you won't speak his language. I've had to deal with that before.

I'm sure that happened.

Why is 11 getting downvoted? My native language is German and I think it's a good joke. After all, this is what our language is known for around the world.
