Today, a guy from my school came into my work. I knew him but forgot his name. I didn't want to be rude and ask for his name when he probably expected me to know it. So, thinking I was clever, I said "How do you spell your name again?". His name was Rob. FML

Today, I was entering a guy's number into my phone, and I couldn't remember his name. Embarrassed, I tried to be sneaky and asked, "Can you spell your name for me, please?" His name is Bob. FML

Today, I went on a lunch date with a guy I used to work with. When the conversation got dry, I asked him if he went by “Chris” or “Christopher” these days. His name is Daniel. My brain knew my mistake as I said it. Just when I thought the silence couldn’t get more awkward. FML

Today, at work, we've just hired a new load of people. As an icebreaker, we were paired up randomly and told to learn about our partner so that we can introduce them to the group. I got matched up with someone I've worked with for 4 months. Mid-conversation, I blurted out "I don't know your name." FML

Today, while not feeling well at work, I had to finish up some papers. I was so out of it, I couldn't remember how to spell my name. I had to improvise by pronouncing each syllable of my name out loud. My boss now thinks I'm a dumbass. FML

Today, after being with the company for over 3 years, I realised nobody really knows my name. This was after my boss was walking around a new staff member and couldn't introduce me. Neither could my colleague, who's been sitting next to me for the last 6 months. FML

Haha, you should've just said something like "Sorry, I know I know who you are but your name has completely slipped my mind...what's your name again?" We all forget names at some point in our life, it's no biggie! I'm sure he wouldn't've minded, if you're not friends then I don't see that would've been much of a problem :P

I've done that before, but usually that trick works in the context of your at a party and you just met someone and your putting their number into your phone because otherwise why would you need to spell their name.

There's different spellings for pretty much any name. I have a friend who spells it Robb.

Ok, awkward to say the least. There's nothing wrong with asking his name, it's not like ur "supposed" to remember every single person's name...so YDI for embarassing yourself!
