This Woman Receives A Lifetime Bus Pass For Her... 103rd Birthday: It's About Time!
Down in Pinellas County, Florida, Barbara Rygiel has been a loyal user of public transit for years. Decades and decades, in fact. And she hasn’t gone unnoticed! That’s why CEO of the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority, Brad Miller, decided to honor her with a special lifetime pass…
…as a present for her 103rd birthday.
Ol’ Babs says she rides the bus about four times a week to go to church and loves the little stroll to the bus stop.
“It means everything to me. Look at how much I can save.”
Yeah, sure. But think of how much you’ve already spent on public transit. Or how much you could’ve could’ve if you’d had this pass earlier!
We get it, PSTA officials, it’s a nice gesture you’ve made. But the woman is 103 years old. I’m sure you see the irony of giving someone this advanced in years a “lifetime pass.”
In an interview with Bay News, Rygiel said that from now on,
“every time she steps on the bus, she’ll be reminded of those who’ve helped her get there. She said she is now looking forward to the future and will greet each day with a smile.”
Now that’s cute.
So how can you be as active in old age and thrive like Barbara does? Bus pass Barbie shared her secret:
“If I tell myself I’m super, then I feel better. I get up in the morning and say, ‘Barbara, you’re super. So get up and do the work.’”
You heard the woman. Be super. Simple as that.
Babs, thanks for the hot tip.
