Massive Patch Required To Play Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 On Day One

You bought the game and you want to play it right away? Too bad for you!

Slow down, buddy. If you bought the brand new Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 (physical release), you'll have a bit of a delay still before you can actually play the game. Unfortunately for Call of Duty fans, the game requires a 50GB patch before it's ready to go.

That's right, an enormous 50GB patch has to be downloaded. If you've got slow internet, RIP. Apparently the patch is needed to play Multiplayer, Zombies, and Specialist Headquarters on PS4 and Xbox One. According to game developer Treyarch, "This update must be installed completely in order to access Multiplayer, Zombies, and Specialist Headquarters. Blackout is fully playable once installation is about 30% complete (approximately 16-20 GB)." ...Just hope that your system can handle it!

According to IGN Entertainment, things will be more complex for PS4 users. Apparently the PS4 re-copies the entire game each time it's updated, so they'll need around 115GB of space in order to install the already large 50GB update.

The game will be available on October 12th for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. If you're taking the plunge, we hope you've got some time and patience set aside. Good luck!

Gotta love how we allow video game companies to release a broken product and promise to fix it later.

Not surprised, after all, they're just selling the on-disk DLC to get you going, and making you download the game so that you can buy the DLC that's on the disk you already bought.

We started accepting this as a norm with operating systems in the 90’s. Now not only is this normal for games, we pay for them twice with the addition of the lovely season pass. They will start pricing people out of the hobby real quick.

You are 100% correct. Hardware manufacturers are doing this now. Look at Apple.
