Judge Orders Man to Write 144 Compliments to His Ex-Girlfriend After Sending Her Just As Many “Nasty” Messages

Daren Young and his ex-girlfriend have been separated since February, but months later, he still couldn’t quite keep from away from her, even after she had taken out legal restraints against him forbidding him to contact her.
If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.
Back in May, he went a little psycho ex-boyfriend on her and called and texted her 144 times in a span of 3 hours, leaving what judge Rhonda Loo describes as “nasty” messages. So, okay, it was more like full psycho ex-boyfriend. The events landed him in jail, where he spent 157 days before being sentenced last Friday.
According to Maui News, 30-year-old Young pleaded no contest against the 16 counts of violating the protection order, for which he received time served for the nearly 5 months spent in jail, 2 years of probation, $2,400 in fines and 200 hours of community service. But that’s not all, Judge Loo also ordered him to write 144 compliments about his ex. “No repeating words.”
“For every nasty thing you said about her, you’re going to say a nice thing.”
The rather unorthodox punishment is meant to counter the number of times he is accused of calling and texting her.
“It’s so childish to think a grown man can be so thumb-happy...I don’t know whether I should cut off your fingers or take away your phone to get you to stop texting,” Loo said. “You probably shouldn’t get a phone, period. I hope she changed her number.”
Young has promised not to contact her at all anymore, claiming that he’s ready to move on with his life and take care of his mother, who has been sick. The judge has given him 144 days to complete the task, after which maybe he will have grown up. Only time will tell!
