Careful Reddit Users: Your User Data May Have Been Stolen
According to Digital Trends, a hacker recently broke into the Reddit network and stole user data. Now, before you get all in a panic about all those reddit hours you've spent and end up looking something like this:
It might be important to note that those of you who created a Reddit account after May 2007... are not affected in this specific portion of the breach.
“Although this was a serious attack, the attacker did not gain write access to Reddit systems; they gained read-only access to some systems that contained backup data, source code and other logs,” the company reports. “They were not able to alter Reddit information, and we have taken steps since the event to further lock down and rotate all production secrets and API keys, and to enhance our logging and monitoring systems.”
Phew- that's a releif. These days with all the recent paranoia people no longer using Google due to fear of being tracked and society generally collectively agreeing that there is a little FBI man watching you through your webcam at all times... the last thing we need is a safe space like Reddit taken from us. What would we have left then!? (Well, besides FML, of course.)
More information can be found on the breach here. Reddit is currently working with law enforcement as they investigate the breach.
