Today, I was tending to my goats. I got felt a horrible pain, and to my dismay, there was a splinter under my finger nail. I had to try and remove it with a sewing needle. The splinter broke. My only hope is for it to be pushed out by nail growth. FML

An FML involving goats, that's different.

Go see a doctor, they should be able to get it out fairly easily. Or refer you to someone who can.

This is the second fml about splinters that I've read today! My 5 year old whines less about splinters than this lot! I know they can hurt, so I'm sorry that you have to deal with a minor inconvenience. If that's the worst thing that happens to you, count your blessings!

You sure know how to be condescending to people that you hardly know anything about. You do realize that some woods- especially those treated to last a long time and repel insects, which more than a few animal buildings are made of- have chemicals in them that can cause serious necrotization and subsequent infection in the location unless the splinter is removed and the wound cleaned? And that any time infection is a risk, you increase your chance of contracting a drug resistant variation of the bacteria? Or that the splinters can move deeper into the body into muscle, and lodge there, causing nerve and muscle damage in rare cases? Plus OP was working with goats- farm animals- meaning that the chances of poo and poo dust not being all over and inside of the wood is nearly zero, which means he could be at risk for a serious infection from that? Then there's the fact that OP is presumably a grown man doing physical labor for who knows how many hours in a day, week, or month. Your son, on the other hand, is five years old and the most physically taxing thing he does is play in a relatively safe environment. Your son also doesn't have to worry about what happens if he gets hurt or sick because you would, presumably, take care of him until he was completely well- OP might not have that luxury. If he wants to complain about something that is going to make his work painful, possibly painful to the point of keeping him from working once it gets infected enough, then he is damn well entitled to that much at least, especially since he isn't hurting anyone. Also, saying something is a 'minor' issue doesn't change the fact it's bad. It still sucks. The only thing saying that serves to do is to attempt to shame people into being quiet about problems by implying that they have no right to be upset because someone out there has it worse.
