Today, I handed in my 2 weeks notice, since I have to leave for college soon. My boss told me it was fine, then cut all my remaining shifts. FML

I have a manager who does something similar; if you ask for a week off, she doesn't schedule you the week after that either. It sucks, especially if you need the money, but at least you won't have to work under that kind of management much longer.

Same thing happened to me with my last job. Luckily I was giving my two weeks due to the fact that I got another job though so I didn't need the last shifts. Looking at your username I'm assuming you're not in dire need of those last shifts either so that's good.

My boss did the same thing. My final paycheck was $86. I was so mad. But he's petty. Someone would ask for a few days off and they would give them the whole week

Oh god, I had one who did that. I requested a week off to go on vacation with my family, and I ended up having half the week before and most of the week afterward off as well. It was insane.

You see, mine was the opposite. I would get rostered on the day I requested off, and then off the nights I needed to work for money. It was awful,

Just ask for half a week off then she will get upset doubling it to a week and you win in the end.

so book only four days off and you'll be rescheduled when youre ready to come back :P

You have an opportunity to be better prepared when you leave for school. Take advantage.

I've had that happen...they need to train your replacement more...it's the way business works...

No.. no that's not how business works. You work for a company, doing good work for them they shouldn't treat you like shit when it's your time to leave. The boss is being petty.

Depending on the business that's exactly how it works. If you're going to a competitor, if you handle sensitive information they think you may mishandle, if they're already trying to cut staff, etc

Maybe if you work fast food or retail. I work as an engineer and my boss regularly encourages us to take time off (assuming it isn't right before a deadline) so that we don't face burnout, which is really common in our industry.

Most employers terminate you when you put in your notice to leave; it is not a new practice. Most bosses should not cut hours due to wanting to use earned PTO or taking unpaid leave unless the employee is subpar. It is best to find a new job where management respects hard work and good employees if you feel you are an asset to the company.

I wouldn't say most do. I've only worked for one employer that prefered same-day termination. Two weeks is still the norm, at least around here.

I have never in my life worked for a company that fired me for giving in my 2 weeks. That's the purpose of the 2 weeks.

It is not written in stone for a 14 day notice. Especially between high school and the required years of College. From what I have observed of other people and given notices...3 to 4 days and your gone.

I guess the silver lining is you have a 2 week vacation before school. Enjoy it bud (:
