Wow.. I'm wondering why your boss didn't ask whether there were any nuts in the brownies. I mean...anyone with allergies knows to ask that kind of stuff. :s Hope it didn't ruin the relationship between you and your boss. Just apologize, I mean there was no way you'd know!
I feel like it's kind of a YDI as well, I would never put nuts in something I made for someone because nut allergies are so common. It was a nice gesture, but OP should have told their boss there was nuts in the brownies. That would have been the first thing I would have thought to do, because you never know.
You're right. Avoiding nuts when making food for someone you don't know is probably the safest thing to do. It's just alarming that someone who is deathly allergic to nuts would just eat something without asking, you know? Mistakes were definitely made both ways!
The gf made the brownies, so it's possible OP didn't know they had nuts in them.
Because nuts don't go in brownies
That's why I don't make things with nuts in them for people I don't know. However, like a comment above, your boss definitely should have asked if there were any nuts! Unless you're some kind of psychic, there is no way you could've known about the allergy.
Always let someone know about peanuts in food as it's a common allergy. He may be allergic to them but not tree nuts, and it's usually walnuts in brownies so he didn't think to ask.
Fire trucks. For a peanut allergy? I agree with the other he should have asked but fire trucks? Either op had more to explain or this is just hogwash.
They'll generally send out at least one fire truck, one ambulance, and one squad car for most medical emergencies. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the firemen/firetrucks are there in the event that there are obstructions (like a locked door) that need cleared to get to the person/people in need.
You are correct. Especially if the person who called didn't specify what the emergency was they need to take all precautions. Usually for an allergic reaction they only send an ambulance? however the coworkers probably didn't know what was happening so the dispatch would have to take extra precautions.
Firemen are usually trained for a medical emergency as well, so they send them too as a "whoever gets there first" type thing.
I think it was a very nice gesture on your part, and that it was up to your boss to ask if they contained an allergen that he was obviously allergic to. How could you have possibly known? It's not your job to bubble wrap the world...
Your boss should have asked if he has a severe allergy. I have just a mild allergy to milk and I always ask.
This reminds me of the time my paternal grandmother called my mom and asked if she could take her to the hospital. She thought she was having a severe food allergic reaction. My mom asked what she's allergic to and grandma said bananas. "Did you eat a banana?" "Yes." "Why would you do that?!" "I thought it was only a seasonal allergy" And even after this incident, she would buy banana chips to place on the cinderblock wall "for the squirrels"
What grownup with that severe a nut allergy just takes offered treats no questions asked?
