I'm sure they would understand and will probably be an office joke in a few months. Just as a tip as well, if letters are capitalized you pronounce the letter not read it as a word.

Um, it actually depends on the specific acronym. Some are meant to be spoken as a word, and some as letters. Compare "FBI" to "NATO." FAQ is actually one that can be used either way.

18 - It's not that they're "meant" to be a word, it's that they're easier to say as a word and sound better. Personally I think FAQ sounds better as the letters sounded out.

Well, some acronyms were absolutely designed to be spoken as words. The arrangement of the words that form the abbreviation is often specifically chosen so that it yields something you can pronounce as a word instead of individual letters. Regardless, my point is that it depends on the acronym. You can't just tell someone, as #7 did, that when you see capital letters, you have to pronounce them individually. Sometimes that's true, but sometimes it's not.

Hahaha I hope your boss laughed like I did. English is a language with very random pronunciations. For instance, notice the different 'a' sounds when you say "May I apologize for the accident" Don't worry, you will get better with practice :)

Over here most of the people call it like that. If there is someone calling it F.A.Q. many people including me don't get it right away.

Funny how the same word can have different ways to pronounce it depending on where you live. I've never heard it being called anything other than ****.
