Today, I was taking a bus ride home, listening to some music. The music stopped and I assumed my iPod's battery had run out. Turns out someone managed to steal it, leaving my earphones in. I didn't feel a thing. FML

I'm imagining OP's iPod is playing, "You've been hit by, you've been struck by-" Thief unplugs the iPod, snatches it and sings "A smooth criminal." The thief then proceeds to moonwalk off the bus with the rest of the occupants performing choreographed dance.

what makes you think that you just didn't lose it

71- because you can't lose your iPod while listening to it without noticing. When it falls out of your pocket it will most likely rip the headphones out of your ears, and if not, you'll still feel the pull from the weight of it dropping, and it will either disconnect from the headphones and fall, or stay connected and just hang from the cord. Either way, you'd have to notice it.

I had almost the same thing happen to me a few years ago. I've said that if I ever met the person who managed to lift my iPod I would shake their hand for pulling it off... then I would punch their lights out for stealing my iPod.

That is actually one of my fears...FYL OP :/

It's a legitimate fear called nomophobia.

Yep! Beware of the Artful Dodger, telling Oliver "You've got to pick a pocket or two".

Note to self never leave your next ipod where a passer by can reach ever again.

Note to you- leave it in your pocket.

Well you know what they say what happens when you assume...You end up getting your iPod stole right from under your nose and get left with headphones dangling from your ears plugged into air like you're some kind of escaped mental patient.

"There's Something About Mary" Her brother wore loose headphone and used to say those words. Sheesh!

That iPod must have been with many, many headphones for the jack to be so loose that when pulled out, you couldn't feel a thing.

Someone trod on my earphones in a shop once and broke them. When you listen to music constantly they are like gold

Riveting tale chap, please do recount it.

I'm female so don't call me chap. Also it was just a throwaway comment, no made to make me look stupid

No need for him to make you look stupid? True, it does seem like you accomplished that all on your own.

I clearly have alot to learn about this website.

Wouldn't the iPod be the first thing to check when the music stopped? Either way thieves are quite good in their field...
