Today, the ex of my boyfriend of 18 months called me and put her phone in her purse. I heard my boyfriend say he's sick of me, he hasn't been happy for a year, and he's afraid to leave because he feels sorry for me. He bought her a ring. I got earrings. FML

Today, I'm living with my now ex-girlfriend of 9 years in the house we bought together. What's worse than that is the fact that 2 weeks before she told me she was unhappy and ended it, I had bought an engagement ring. I didn't get the chance to ask, and had to return the ring. FML

Today, after 5 and a half years, my boyfriend had spent months talking about proposing before the end of the year. He'd picked out a ring, told all his friends, and couldn't stop talking about our future. He then dumped me over the phone out of the blue. FML

it sounds like he is playing both of you. He probably isn't sick of you at all or he would break up with you. The "feeling sorry' thing is a typical line as to why he won't break up with you for her. other lines include "she cheats, she is abusive, she will hurt herself if I leave". He is just trying to cheat on you whilst ensuring he does not have to break up with you because he wants the best t of both worlds. Dump him. Talk to her. move on.
