Today, I told my mom I had 73 cents in my checking account. She gave me a penny and told me I had 74 cents and it was even now. Thanks mom. FML

In the States, nursing homes cost money. Give how well OP is doing financially the mom is probably better off making the arrangements herself.

Typically, when people are decrepit enough to be admitted to a nursing home, the kids have power of attorney and do the choosing and spend the parent’s money.
