Today, I was writing an exam when the student sitting behind me finished and left, kicking his water bottle under my chair. I paid no mind to it. Later, I receive a call from the school that I've been suspended. Apparently that water bottle had cheat notes written all on the inside of the label. FML

Wait, unless you were in a really tiny class or something, how in the world would they know it was you? And wouldn't they have compared the notes to the test to see if you even had the same information? Also, wouldn't the teacher have talked to you first rather than you receiving a call from the school? Normally I hate when people try to prove FMLs fake, but this seems HIGHLY improbable.
Unless you're in high school, in which case this makes total sense.
They have the bottle, don't they? Just take the writing and then write so they can compare it. Or show them notes you've taken over the past few days and the bottle.

Lot's of schools and universities assign seats for exams, so I don't think that's what makes it improbable. But it could very easy be cleared up by comparing the notes on the bottle to the OPs exam. If it's not fake, why don't you go back and suggest that to them?
:/ Water bottles w/ cheat notes is such an old trick. I certainly hope you don't let kids keep bottles on their desks while they are taking exams. Next time have your students put ALL of their belongings in the front of the room.

If the notes are handwritten, get them to compare the writing. That should prove it wasn't you pretty easily. If they're typed I guess you're screwed.
#15, I'm a senior in high school and the principal still makes us have In School Suspension. Of course he's a bastard who's all too happy to torment the students more than a principal should..

Fight back! Don't let them suspend you for something you didn't do and make it look bad on your personal record. Jeez explain it to someone that's not fair. And how can they suspend you if there is no direct evidence? There was a water bottle under your desk so somehow it's your fault? @15 - When I was in high school, we also had in school suspension. It was usually the punishment for getting caught skipping, which it would be stupid to give you time off for.
The teacher proctoring the exam should be able to determine if the cheat sheet was yours or not. Demand a chance to defend yourself and question the teacher. Find out who was seen with the water bottle (have them question other students) and make sure the cheater pays.
that sucks but can't you just tell them the truth about what happened? and obviously if it was you, you wouldn't leave it under your own chair.

fingerprinting isn't difficult. Your prints should be nowhere on the bottle....IF they kept the bottle. If they didn't keep the bottle, they have no evidence and you were not given a chance to prove yourself. Guess you're guilty till proven innocent huh?
#7 technically you can, though it is on a semester basis rather than daily. You will not have to reregister the following semester, but until then you will not be allowed to sign up for classes or receive grades. And I don't know of any highschool classes that let you leave school when you finish a test.

#13 thats what they do at my university...you can have a waterbottle, but the label has to be ripped off, no hats, no jackets, or hoodies, if you keep a hoodie on they body check you, you cant have a cell phone on your person, off or not, if they catch you will a cell, even off, you get 0 on the exam

#15 - We had ISS in our high school too. Unless someone did something really bad, wouldn't it make more sense to make them come to school than to basically give them free days off?
#40 - I had assumed that if the OP was in college, that they were suspended from completing the semester and re-registering. Although, more likely a college would simply kick you out, not suspend you.
And the OP doesn't say that the other person left school. Maybe they were leaving for a field trip, or going to the library.

15, why would in-school suspension mean middle school? My school had inschool up to 12th grade, and once you got to high school and it was nearly impossible to get an out of school suspension - after all if they gave you OSS everyone would be trying to get suspended for the free days
OP must be in high school. Colleges know their students have enough sense not to take stuff like this sitting down. You always have some sort of hearing.
OP: Even if you are in HS, you still don't have to take this. Go talk with the admins, and if they don't listen, get your parents to call. Tell them who sat behind you, and don't feel obligated to defend the person that tried to frame you (btw, the other kids actually won't think it's uncool to not let yourself be taken advantage of, just so you know). If they weren't intentionally trying to frame you, they would have thrown the bottle out.
Compare handwriting? There have got to be a million things you could do to prove your innocence. Put on your grown-up pants and do something about it.

They didn't event talk to you about it? They just suspended you? That hardly seems fair. It still is likely. You can't really figure out who did it, because a lot of people just copy enough answers to get an okay grade, not all of them. They can't compare handwriting, because somebody else could have written it for you. Anyway, you should go argue with them, because that's messed up.

I doubt this... in my school your not aloud to take anything into an exam other than a pencil, pen, eraser and that stuff. No water bottles because they know that kids try that.

Except DNA tests are expensive and require DNA. It's not like on CSI where you just push a button and BEEP the person's photo appears.
it should be fine if you dont have all of the same answers on your test that were in the bottle.

Did you touch it? If not, ask them to fingerprint it and give them samples of your fingerprints. I'm sure there are other ways you could prove it wasn't yours...
