Today, I found out that my new neighbor who moved in 2 weeks ago has been dead in his apartment for the past 5 days. I've been making jokes to the other people in building that he could die and no one would know about it. FML

Had this happen to me when I was in college. My neighbor was about 90 years old, in a wheelchair and never left the house. I would joke that if he died no one would know. And yupe, he died and his son found his body about a week later. FYL
The fact that he made jokes of him being dead means he considered him alive. Most people don't plan to make jokes about people dieing when they think they're going to die. He WAS considerate. :/

Finding someone dead after 5 days wouldn't necessarily make the news. If there's no foul play or a gruesome crime scene, it's just not 'interesting' enough. Think about how many murders and kidnappings go unreported.

What i mean is, so much shit goes unnoticed because people would rather hear about a murderer or something interesting rather then something important.
A lot of things that happen never make it on the news. Only about 1 in 3 kidnappings ever makes it on the news, does that make the other two invalid or untrue? People die a lot more frequently then you're thinking if you think everyone who drops dead and is discovered will make it on the news. Also, they're not always found within an hour of dying either. Plus, do you watch the news 24/7 or even live where the OP lives?
I'm just grateful it wasn't five weeks or something.

Hundreds of people die of natural causes every day and even if there were suspicious circumstances it's unlikely to be in the news. If every single death was reported then we'd never hear the headlines.
