This isn't fake, I had a similiar thing happen to me in my French class, but I'm assuming there were more smaller "mistakes" that didn't seem important.

In a language it is easier to say "8:00am" rather than "8:05am", because you don't have to worry about the additional grammar, but the letter was obviously an exericse of things you have recent learnt in class, so in class you probably learnt how to say 8:05am, so you didn't lose the points because the time was wrong, it was because you didn't apply what you had learnt in class.

The problem I had in my French was that in French you have informal and formal versions of you, tu and vous. In English we would say "You can use tu with me", so I wrote that, but in class we had learnt that tutoyer was a verb that meant "to use tu", so I was suppose to apply this and write "tu peux me tutoyer", because writing "tu peux utiliser tu avec moi" wasn't how you phrased that particular sentence.

Another problem is saying "Can you give me the butter, please", this is how we say it in English, but in French they would say "Give me the butter, please", which has the same level of politeness. So small things that don't seem like a big deal isn't the teacher being pedantic, she probably asked you to talk about the time so she could assess your ability on telling complex forms of time like 8:07, and etc.

So, this FML isn't a fake, they probably just didn't ask why the marks were taken or didn't have enough characters to explain.

This isnt fake. Use your brains people. There are ALL SORTS of teachers in this world. Some are terrible. I had a teacher last year who gave me a 0 for an essay i wrote that was slightly off topic because she thought i was purposely challenging her authority by writing another assignment. Apparently i wrote a movie review rather than a movie response. I also had a teacher who would give us 50 points (half of an exam grade) if we bought full sized flags for him to put up in his bar. Yeah, some teachers suck.

Sounds fake to me. Losing 50% of the grade for a small mistake? Either your paper is riddled with mistakes worse than that, you're not telling the truth, or like #34 said, it may have been 2.5 points off and you didn't see the decimal.

I'm just thinking there were more smaller "mistakes" and that when the OP asked about his grade she said "well first, you said 8:00 instead of 8:05", than she may have gone on to list smaller things but the OP thought the time was more of an FML moment, plus an FML is only 300 characters, a person can hardly list all the reasons. And only mentioning the time without going into depth about other mistakes makes it sound like an FML. Remember that alot of FMLs are submitted per day, and if you want to have yours on the site, it really needs to sound like an FML, and in this case, they simplified it just to make it sound worse. I don't think this is an "FML", so to speak because it was over-simplified.

I myself have had FML moments which I found very hard to describe in 300 characters, and when I was done fitting it in, it didn't sound as devasting as it should, so it wasn't accepted. i think we need more than 300 characters, some FMLs need more than that.

I'm calling fake as well. Now I'm not reading the big wall of text above, but here's my take.

When a project like that comes alone, teachers have rubrics of what they expect. They ALL do, even college professors will do that because they want things to be done in a single way. Now if one was provided, chances are it had a section on "accuracy of information" which had a % value. Now I don't know that many language teachers who base 50% of projects on the accuracy of the information, and not language, but I'm guessing very few. Now if there is an off chance that it was 50% of the project, you should've read the project and challenged her on it. The first thing I would've done is ask why she's grading so much on the accuracy of information and not the accuracy of the language in which it is written. Here's the thing, if it's the first, you need to challenge it. Even if there wasn't a rubric, you need to challenge why she's a) grading so harshly on accuracy of information, and not language, and b) how she can grade so harshly when she never provided a rubric for people to follow. If it was the second, you deserve it based on the fact that you didn't see that something was fishy in the first place, though this story is way to rediculous.

Chances are the story's fake, in which case you did a horrible job.
On the off chance it's real, grow a pair and defend your grade. I mean seriously, I've challenged grades that were less detrimental than THAT.
