Today, I was on a 3 hour plane ride. An elderly man was sitting next to me and before the flight took off, he fell asleep on my shoulder. I decided to be kind and let him sleep. When the flight was about to land, I tried to wake him up. He wouldn't. He died on my shoulder. FML

I had a Danish professor who - on his first day in the country - had a person die beside him on the bus. True story. Even worse for him, he was questioned by the cops as possibly being involved in foul play. Talk about a great way to start things off.

something just like this happened to me on the subway in NYC but it wasn't on my shoulder, just across from me somebody looked like they were sleeping, then after a while the subway stopped and some paramedics came on and took the person off on a board and the subway kept going.

We're not saying two people can never die while on a mode of transportation. But for them to die on someone's shoulder... And both people know about and post on FML... and they both happen within roughly a month or so of eachother... I'm not so sure.

With the elderly on planes, it's always good to check on their breathing. If it's labored or unusually slow, ask a flight attendant to bring over an oxygen mask. If they feel sick ask for Dramamine or at least Ginger Ale to help settle their stomach. They're frail and the lowered oxygen levels and elevation pressure can kill them if they're already not in a good way.

Ginger Ale contains actual *ginger*, which is known to help lower stomach acid levels. It's also contained in most kinds of Chai Tea. Green Tea and Mint both have similar effects, as well as helping with digestion, which is why they are offered at the end of meals.

My dads a pilot and he was flying when a guy died on the plane. It happens more than you think and rarely makes the media.

Fake. I work in aviation, in Texas, and like #10 said, there has been nothing in the media. Anytime someone dies on an airplane, it's ALL OVER the news.
That is not true. The example I posted earlier was a small article in our local newspaper that briefly mentioned the lady dying on the airplane. It was not all over the news.
Not at all - most deaths don't appear anywhere except as a footnote. The only time death on a plane appears nationally or internationally in the news is when it's an accident/attack/virus or someone famous.
If it's a local paper, usually a story is run because the person dying is/was a resident, or an important figure there and if the person is not, it is run because it happened locally.
If you're "in the media" you should know the criteria for what makes a story local, state, national or international news.
If you're in aviation, who says that you're going to know about it? If you got all the news from every flight worldwide and read it, you'd not have time to do any work...
That's not true. My great grandpa died on a plane and it wasn't reported to the media or "all over the news." That's stupid...old people die...just because it's on a plane doesn't mean it is newsworthy.

Thank you! I had a friend who had an elderly person pass away next to them on the bus and didnt know until the end of their ride. Things happen, sometimes even very similar things...with the amount of people in this world of course the odds of identical situations happening are high.

The two stories are one and the same. This is how I know. In the first story, the old woman on the bus died on the girl's shoulder. She then reincarnated as an old man and had this strange urge to die on another woman's shoulder. So she/he got on board an "air bus" and gave up the ghost. There. Case closed. Until a month from now when somebody posts that they had picked up a hitchhiker who got in the back seat and then a few miles down the road disappeared.

My grandfather told me in the final year of cancer he didn't really feel himself dying, he just found he was always tired and wanted to sleep longer and more often.
