By burrrito_ - This FML is from back in 2016 but it's good stuff - United States - Crystal Lake

Today, I found out why you depressurize your espresso maker before changing out the coffee grinds. FML

First world problems of the highest calibre.

That must really grind your gears. You can't even relieve the pressure with a nice cup of coffee.

Why would you ever take you chances with something that says to depressurize before *blank*.

This reminds me of the time I forgot to take the CO2 charge out of the whipped cream canister before I took the lid off back when I worked at Starbucks. I smelled like sour milk the whole day :/

Why do I get the feeling that's what would happen when you open the lid of a whipped cream with no stopper inside just after it's been charged? I'm actually a little curious what would happen if you did take the lid off just after it's been charged with no stopper inside. Not enough to actually do it and find out, of course. lol.

Oh I've done that... burnt hand for days, huge coffee grounds mess, and stained shirt. I feel ya.

Given that the pressure is probably caused by heat and steam, it would likely cause an explosive release of pressure, throwing steam and hot coffee grounds everywhere. So OP is very lucky if they don't have some unpleasant burns.

I do not have said machine so I have no idea why this is an FML. What happens?

Question has been answered. Check a couple of comments up.

I'll go ahead and not be an @$$ and just tell you, the pressure that gets built up from steam and heat in the coffee maker makes the a little explosion of hot steam and coffee grounds.

13, by saying you'll "go ahead and not be an @$$" which is obviously you calling me one, you are, in fact, being "an @$$." By the way, I actually wasn't being one - someone had answered the question already and I was simply telling them where to find the answer.

That may be true #14, but tone doesn't really come across on the internet. You could have just as easily summed up the answer and it wouldn't have come off as a jerk statement.
