Today, my new futon mattress arrived. Upon laying it out on the frame, I realized IKEA has whack bed sizings. When I went to return the mattress for a queen, they informed me a queen mattress wouldn't be here until sometime next week. I already threw out my old crappy mattress. FML

Why didn't you measure your frame before buying a new mattress? IKEA may have strange sizes, but they list the exact measurements on their website, which I'm pretty sure whatever mattress shop you went to does as well. You might actually still want to do that, in case a queen size won't fit either.

Yeah, IKEA is like Apple: They sell you entire systems of furniture that will fit each other however you combine them. But you'll never be able to buy standard components anywhere else.

Well it will fit other bed frames or you can buy another companies mattress for and IKEA bed frame, because this is the standard in Europe and Sweden.

I don't know about the rest of Europe, but IKEA's beds aren't the same size as UK standard sizes. I know this because I have an IKEA double bed, and normal fitted sheets are slightly too small for it.

I live in Europe, and while what you are saying is true for adult size beds (except for the pillows, which are half size at IKEA, so if you have a standard pillow you can never buy IKEA duvet cover sets, and duvet covers/duvets, where standard size is 135x200cm and IKEA size is 150x200cm), once you start with kid size beds, you are in for a problem. Standard kid/baby beds are 140x70cm, while IKEA has 120×70cm baby beds and 160x70cm junior beds. And that's only frames and mattresses. Baby/Kids blankets, pillows and duvet cover sets are 40x60cm/100x135cm standard size, and 35x55/110x125cm IKEA baby size. Now, we are four people, and everyone has different sets of bedding because my hubby and I already had duvets and stuff each when we moved together, and we have standard sized kids bedding at home, but our daycare uses IKEA. Keep trying all those straight in the laundry and you'll know why I'm fed up by IKEA's sizing.

Actually Ikea doesn't have strange sizes, when you are metric these make sense and well what you call a twin 90x 200 cm , we call a normal adult bed and a double is 2 normal adult beds so there for 180x 200 cm. Also IKEA system follows their own, European system so you have read before buying. And I if you now bought a queen, well a European queen bed is 160 cm while and american is 152 cm.. so yes you will be in problem.

I have never had this happen on three beds. Gotta pay attention to the description section. By the rookie mistake I am guessing you don't have a guest bed. Camping cots work awesome and you have an extra bed in case of emergencies. Think of it as an investment in your future.

I feel you dude. I have a double bed but I used a queen sized quilt and for some reason IKEA's queen quilts are square, 200mm x 200mm...and in Australia our queen sized quilts are slightly longer on one side so they're a rectangle. Means my quilt doesn't fit :/
