Today, my aunt asked to see my new airsoft pistol. Not thinking anything of it, I handed it to her. She shot me in the leg. I was standing next to her. FML

Hey now, accidents happen. Just the other day, while looking at my friend's brand new baseball bat, I accidentally bashed him over the head with it. Several times. I was so embarrassed. I can be such a klutz at times.

@2 it was just an accident, so no reason to shoot her back as he could have charges pressed against him. And yes you can kill someone with an air soft gun but it doesn't do much damage. It's most likely to miss any major arteries or organs

I think the only way to possibly kill someone with an airsoft gun is if you had a really powerful one, were shooting metal bb's instead of plastic airsoft pellets, and shot them in the (open) eye from point blank range. But if you really thought you could kill someone with it, why would you tell OP to shoot her?

2- Air soft pellets are made of plastic. I'm pretty sure it's almost impossible to actually kill someone like that.

I reckon they go all 'they can actually kill you guys' at airsoft events just so new people are too scared to risk it and start shooting each other in the face. It's like when you take woodwork lessons and the teacher tells you of that one time a student totally got her ponytail caught in a machine and it ripped out her brain.

1. I've never owned an airsoft gun but my bf has plenty and his ammo is pointed and metal. I fail to see how that flying at a high rate of speed can't kill someone. 2. I doubt the aunt did it as an accident as everyone especially adults know that you NEVER point a gun loaded or unloaded at another person. 3. obvs. shooting them in the leg didn't kill them and if the aunt did it on purpose then she deserved to know what it felt like so maybe she will refrain from doing it in the future.

The standard ammunition for airsoft guns are plastic spherical BBs, you can purchase them in metal but those are still round. The rounds your boyfriend has are probably actually for an air gun, I understand how someone who as you've stated yourself has never owned one could mix them up. But air guns at least in my experience are usually used for target practice to sharpen your aim, or to deal with rodents. Which is why pointed metal rounds are usually used in air guns. Also, going on the fact that some people might've found it dangerous for the OP's aunt to shoot them by accident, the gun was highly likely to have only been loaded with the standard plastic BBs seeing as the OP probably wasn't going to spend the extra money on metal BBs when plastic work just fine. Just a quick side note, this reply was not meant in any way to be rude or insulting to anyone, if it comes across that way I sincerely apologize.

It is possible to kill someone with an airsoft gun if aimed right, thats why they are restricted, have safety measures and use pellets that brake on an impact higher than the safety regulations allow.

You might be talking about an airgun, which is more dangerous. There is a whole sport centered around airsoft where you shoot eachother. Airsoft guns shoot around 400 FPS and fire small plastic pellets. Airsoft is harmless as long as it doesnt hit your eyes so you should where safety goggles

Especially an airsoft pistol can't do much. Point blank into your eye could blind you, sure, and it MIGHT (very small might) be able to kill you if you shot it directly down your throat. Even then, I doubt it. Definitely not in the leg, it hardly even hurts, especially with clothes.

What were you doing handing a loaded weapon to someone else, OP?? Even if it was only an airsoft gun, it is still a dangerous toy and best practices for ANY sort of propelled projectile is to clear the weapon before doing anything else with it - especially handing it to someone who might not be trained for it! I hope you're all right. And though I think YDI to a degree, I'm sorry - getting shot at close range can REALLY hurt. At least you're not short an eye, which could have just as easily happened.
