Today, I called a suicide prevention hotline. The guy who picked up sounded drunk, told me to fuck off, and hung up. FML

Hi I posted this. Thanks for all the support!! I was in a really bad place when I posted this but I've been talking to a professional and got on medication and I'm really improving. All your comments really helped too. I didn't call the wrong number, I called back and asked someone else for a supervisor and he said he'd look into it. Never heard anything back from him though. I just hope the asshole that told me to **** off didn't drive anybody else over the edge :

I'm not going to even make a joke. OP, things might seem dark and grey now, but things will always get better. Trust me, I've been where you are at, and life gets brighter. Finding a support group that offers advice and genuinely cares is invaluable.

Oh wow. Maybe instead of working at a help hotline he should call one too. On a side note. Don't do it.

Or, you know, the completely fine, sound, logical assumption that the guy was a complete douche.

#25, it's the guy's job to listen to these stories, and if he can't do that without getting emotional and telling people to "**** off", then he should not be doing this in the first place.

Well if some people knew this death volunteers for the suicide hotline death must have had a bad day

Very sorry to hear that. Good luck, and be sure to report that guy.

I agree. don't be silly. don't do something so drastic for a while of feeling down. I found out I was bipolar when I was 23 and I never knew what was wrong with me. I thought about suicide a lot and figured if life sucked this bad it had to get better. it did. just find your support. good luck.

Things are rough, and I get that. Hell, I bet that more than half of the FML community gets that. But please, OP, things will get better. I know that everyone says that, but it's true. A year ago I attempted and I'm sure glad that I didn't succeed. People are there to support you, whether you realize it now or not. You can make it through!:)

On a side note, to whoever said that OP deserved this, there's a special place in hell for your kind of people.

#56, I found out I was bipolar at nine, after two suicide attempts-- one when I was 7, one at 9. the first time I took a knife to my wrists and neck. just because you know it's due to a mental illness doesn't mean you can stop. I'm on medication, and have been since I was diagnosed. different ones, because none of them have helped. part of the problem is knowing you're bipolar and have depression that will never truly go away. I have 7 mental diagnosis.

This is literally the most irritating thing everyone keeps saying to depressed people. "It will get better". Yeah...okay. I'm glad you can see into the future. I understand you're trying to cheer people up but unless you know their issues, you cannot say that for a fact. People I love are dying so no, it won't get better. Not unless they find a cure for diabetes and terminal stage cancer. Keyword I guess is terminal though. Your heart is in the right place, but it really might never get better for them. For so many people, it never does.

I'm sure spouting spiteful remarks and waving around your misery makes you feel better, #126, but telling a suicidal person what you just did is a new sort of low. Maybe you should go talk to someone about your problems instead of taking it out on other people. I honestly can't think of a more horrible and dangerous thing to tell someone in OPs position. Call another hotline OP. Even if it's for a special group that you don't belong to. If you need help they'll be happy to talk. I know people that work those hotlines and I promise you the reject you talked to isn't normal. In fact, when you're feeling a little better, you should contact someone at that organization. People like that guy can really do serious damage.

And there are other hotlines OP can try if the feeling hits suddenly. Even if the hotline is for a special group, like LGBT, call them. They're (usually) caring people who want to help regardless of the particulars of the situation. I know someone that works a crisis hotline. This drunken idiot is not the norm and remember that sometimes phone numbers are put out wrong. Maybe you got given a bad number, OP. Don't give up. There's lots of people who want to help you through this.

I've prayed to God for the worst day of my life, because I would then know everyday there after would be better

Those people who fake having a mental disorder.. You cannot be diagnosed with bipolar while prepubescent, and they usually won't diagnose until post-adolescence. *sips lipton tea* not my business though..

While this joke gets down voted, others are up voted. Sad times.

You people obviously need to realize that this is not the place for that kind of joke

#57 As i respect what you said, this website is suppose to be about joking. I truely think OP would not have posted this on FML if he didnt find it a little funny later.

#5 & #26 - The joke wasn't a "miss", it was just placed poorly. Sometimes jokes are appropriate and sometimes they're not. Read #4 for an example.

this wasn't even a miss...this was just ******* uncalled for.

Shut the **** up Kibby. No wonder none of your 54 FMLs got posted. You're an asshole, so get the hell out of here.

Wow you are right! How can someone make so many FML's?!

As always, the spider is right. Get your bad joke out of a serious issue.

#86, 88 - It's easy. If you've ever moderated before, you'd know that people misspell something, or try to change the wording, because you can't edit your submissions like you can with simple commenting. Sometimes it actually goes through because of changing the wording. Not sure how submitting that many FMLs is relevant here, anyway.

because #116 I am a professor and i search for the truth!

I will admit it was a little messed up. But i chuckled. If you can't find humor in anything in life your truly not happy. There is always humor you just have to look for it. I feel sorry for you guys. Pull the sticks out of your butts and live a little. How do you know this guy was even serious? And didn't just say this for attention? Think before you guys speak... Seriously...

It gets better OP! I promise. Surround yourself with people you love. If you need anyone to talk to, you can always message me. (: I care way more than that drunken asshole.

Are you sure you dialed the right number? I hope you find help soon OP. :)

I've had lingering thoughts like that. Life is a roller coaster, but it still goes up after it goes down. Don't do it. Please if you are still thinking about it, don't!

If it can help :OP don't kill yourself and go talk to a shrink.
