Today, I spent nearly an hour helping a customer pick out an engagement ring. I rang him up, picked out a super cute box for the ring, and wished him luck. Later I realized I never put the ring inside the box. FML

How... how could you make that mistake?

When he does come back, prepare for him to accuse you of trying to pocket his ring.

It isn't uncommon for jewelry stores to collect info from buyers, for warranty and cleaning purposes at least, so op could probably call him.

only after he's already proposed with an empty box..

I love it how people are lying that they are the ones who bought the ring and it wasn't in the box look at the moderator section

Yeah seriously I'd March back to the store and chew them a new ass, not post it to Fml

#5 Just seems like the kind of mistake that really shouldn't happen if it's your job, and it's as important as an expensive ring.

Regardless of if they shouldn't, they will. This is due to the imperfect memory of humans. As well as the large number of distractions in a busy store.

Trust me, I know. I'm not saying anything bad against OP, everyone makes mistakes. Maybe I'm just naturally paranoid, but whenever I'm doing something with my job that's important, I always double check everything. :P

I misread my original comment. I'll show myself out

am I the only one who thinks #5 intentionally spelled humans wrong to show that humans make mistakes?

#30 I was thinking that too, lol. but it doesn't look like very many people found it funny.

I would hope that the guy would check the box a half a dozen times before attempting to propose. And OP, most jewelry stores require the customer to provide name, address, phone number and email address. Can't you look the customer up and call him?? PS OP, you should be a lot more attentive. That's a HUGE mistake to make. Hopefully you'll pay better attention in the future. YDI.

I hope he checks the box before he heads out to Mordor.

This mistake won't be missed by the girlfriend's all seeing eye.

The girlfriend will not get the precious.

#53 has been waiting all this time for a ring related FML just for this comment. Your life is now complete #53.

I'm just waitin for someone to post something like this: Today, After picking it for an hour I bought an engagement ring. When I proposed to my girlfriend the box was empty. FML

and the doctors say the box is to deep to safely remove

"Today, My boyfriend proposed to me. Its would have been great if the box wasn't empty. FML"

he posted on here and while i was moderating the FMLs i came across this Today, I proposed to my darling girlfriend of 3 years. She was so excited until I presented the engagement ring to her at which point she looked rejected. THERE WAS NO RING IN THE BOX!!! Now she thinks I was just copying Knocked Up and refuses take my proposal seriously, thanks KilledTheMoment. FML im not even joking either!

If he's worried about it, he'll probably check the box before proposing, so hopefully OP hasn't ruined the biggest moment of this poor sap's life so far.

The biggest moment of his life will always be the day that the sperm he came from reached the egg and survived.

If he decides to return the ring - that will be the biggest and happiest day of his life. Whether he messes up a proposal does not matter: if he hears "yes" it will mess up his life. So, the salesperson just increased man's chances of hearing "no" and, maybe, saved him an ocean of grief

I feel like you need to let something out there #52 ...

@ #52: Don't be sad, Vader. Padmé loved you. That whole dying during childbirth thing wasn't meant just to spite you for going all dark side on her.

noooo! you shoulda said your comment like yoda!

70, I was thinking the exact same thing.

I was expecting him to propose to you as soon as you sold it to him. lol

That… actually could've made her day! Even if it would be a joke, that would be freakin' awesome!
