okay, how dirty does your room have to be that when you leave a glass of water next to your bed for a few hours it gets ants in it?
I've gotten ants before but its been because a jolly rancher that fell behind my desk unbeknown to me, and it probably sat there for weeks... not hours...
Hope they weren't fire ants
How did the ants get in the glass anyways? I've never seen anything like that...
That's insanely disgusting!
That's just more protein. Quit bitchin', it's good fer ya.
These FMLs about people not paying attention to what they're putting in their mouths are getting really played out.
Fuck your life? Imagine how the ants must have felt!
i was juss thinkin that #7.
lame.
I was thinking exactly what number 7 said also. xD
Poor little ants.
Okay, so what else was in the water that they were attracted to? Was it vitamin water or something? I've never even heard of ants going toward water like that.
Who let this one through? >
lmfao #7 :P
OP : thats nastty i feel bad for you !
Ants are alright to eat. They're rich in protein. Gross, but no different from anything else you eat. If you ate one by accident, don't stress. This isn't a FML, as much as the ant's.
"Here I was just chillaxing in a pool of water bringing water for my girl Queen Ant when some chump giant started drinking and now I'm dead. FML"
I've done that before except without the ants and instead with some big-ass spider. Twice. I was less than amused. And I haven't had blackcurrant juice by my bed since.
LOL #12.
OP: sympathy to you, but clean your room.
PLEASE stop reversing fmls. that was the stupidest one I've read, #13.
LOL #14
#18 - On 04/19/2009 at 10:57am by blland
I'm so confused as to why people are saying "LOL" "ROFL" to numbers that are.... other people doing the same thing? Are all of you reading the numbers wrong or what?
12 = lmfao #7 :P
14 = #12, ROFL
18 = LOL #14
Quit bitching, big fucking deal. It would be FML worthy if it had been a roach.
Yo fault, stop living like a dirty slob.
sorry, you kinda deserve it for not looking at what you were about to drink before drinking it...
and your life is not f'd. so you swallowed a few ants...big deal
#23 - On 04/19/2009 at 11:31am by Tresemmegan
ew ew ew ew ew ew ew ew ew
clean ur room man.
or hire a specialized group to kill those ants .
#24 - On 04/19/2009 at 11:49am by rc15
Good god, how many of these "I wasn't paying attention and accidentally ate something gross" FMLs are there? For one thing, lighten up; if you are still alive, you're probably going to be ok.
And also, ants tend to run _away_ from water, not into it. So I wonder about this one...
this just made my day
more F the ants life tho
I don't get how people don't check stuff before the put it in their mouth.
and this is why i alway keep BOTTLED water next to my bed
I'm pretty sure ants don't run into water like that. Flies, maybe, but only one or tops two. A bunch of ants?
The only explanation is that somebody put them there. You should ask around the house and see who can't keep a straight face.
Um, why would ants be floating in a glass of water randomly or something? Anyway, that's SO gross. I would've died, only because I seriously hate bugs and insects and rats and ew. I am so sorry.
And for those of you who keep saying, "quit whining. It's just ants", seriously? Wow. If you think it's okay or no big deal to accidentally take in a mouthful of ants, wow. And screw the protein. That's gross.
gross, but you deserved it for not looking when you felt something in your mouth...and for not looking in the glass before you 'took a huge gulp'
#33 - On 04/19/2009 at 12:57pm by charlottex33
seriously? what was in your water? what was in your room? come on dude.
iJack-
There was one about a person accidentally eating a dead cricket.
There was one about a person eating crackers with bugs on them.
There was one about a person accidentally swallowing an unknown object thinking it was a pill.
There was one about a person eating chips that their little cousin had sucked on.
There was one about a person applying sharpie to their lips when they thought it was a chapstick.
And these are all in the last 2 months or so and the list goes on and on. So yes, fool, these are seriously played out.
Maybe you should get an anteater for a pet--that would take care of the problem!
Dude that is sick. I absolutely DETEST ants. Oh grosssss.
they're ants, u cant taste them and they're free protien. pay my 1 dollar and ill eat an ant right now, especailly with water -.-
not a big deal
19, i was just thinking that. and#7 wasn't even funny
for everyone who thinks ants don't like water, not true. after they turned a field across from my house into a parking garage, all the ants fled to my neighborhood and took residence in our showers and sinks.
That's horrible.
really, really horrible. and I doubt any of the people chalking this up to "no big deal" would ACTUALLY drink ants and not care.
however, I do wonder how you got ants in your water.
*whips out flame thrower*
*flame on*
#42 probably belongs to >10 BS animal lover groups... e.g. PETA
jesus! there are billions of ants and the OP only ate a few... by accident!
Anyway, it's free protein! WHO CARES.
*Flame off*
#44- that made me giggle a little bit ^_^
and ants are actually considered a delicacy in some countries and truly are a good source of protein...and supposedly taste like lemons...i knew someone who used to eat ants as a kid for that particular reason
the comments on this are more entertaining than the FML itself
what has happened to the quality of this website?
thats gross, but dont you look
at your food/drink BEFORE u drink it?
like turn on a little lamp and see it first.
i dont just eat/drink anything that i dont look at.
but ants taste great?didnt everyone eat them when they were young?friend of mine once drank the water from a hookah because it was filled into a bottle, she turned pale and puked all night
Done that, only with a bag of chips. Wasn't bad, I'd do it again. The chips were kinda tame without them. You know if we'd all stop eating cows for our protein and started eating ants I bet we could feed a lot more people.
#50 - On 04/19/2009 at 3:21pm by Draq
oh my god that's the most disgusting thing i've ever heard in my life. lololol GROSS
It's not like it killed you. If you hadn't seen the dead ants you'd never know the difference.
Ants die in water.
They never get into water?
This happened to me once when I was a kid, except my cup had a straw and a lid and I sucked the ant up through the straw and spit it out because my water was not supposed to have anything solid in it. Since then though, I only use water bottles with lids that close completely. FYL, I feel your pain.
And people asking how dirty the room is, some places it doesn't matter how clean you keep it, bugs come in because they can.
I just wanted to say that just because someone has ants doesn't say anything about the cleanliness of their place. We have ants in rooms of my house that food has never been in.
So you ate some ants. Gonna cut yourself? Suck it up.
#56 - On 04/19/2009 at 4:39pm by thelonelylurker
I agree with 7 all the way.
I have beene there done that. One time i was eating a bag of chips, and for somereason they were extra good, after i finnished the entire bag my mouth and hands started hurting really bad. when i looked down the entire bag was full of red fire ants.
I think the thought of it is grose, but they them self's don't taste bad espically after they have been eating chips for a long time :P
I would never do it agian though lol
that has definitely happened to me, lol
a similar thing happened to me the other day. I was woken up by my phone's alarm clock like every morning and picked it up to hit the snooze and felt something odd. This happened another time before i finally woke up and noticed my whole counter, phone included, was swarmed with ants. They had found the cereal i had been eating the night before.
the window near my bed actually had a big dent where the ants were coming in, but i live in a dorm room so i assume the dent came from a former resident.
#61 - On 04/19/2009 at 4:56pm by vers
So many FMLs are involving eating Insects. Probably fake like some of the others, js :)
Congratulations, you've lived my worst nightmare.
44-Hahaha. Flame on? Who the f do you think you are, the human torch? Also, reading comprehension. Learn it. 42 was just saying that it was horrible that OP woke up realizing she swallowed ants and that whoever was saying that it "is no big deal" wouldn't think so if they accidentally ate bugs. 42 didn't say anything implying s/he was an animal lover. Dumbass.
Would be worse if it was a cockroach, but is still pretty gross.
Even worse if it was a bee.
When I did a first aid course last year for some reason the instructor told us that it's common to swallow bugs and spiders while we sleep. I think it may be an urban legend, I mean who would count that and how? but still..eww
That's happened to me before... I feel your pain man. And to the people commenting on a dirty room, it really depends on where you live. Depending on the weather, ants may sometimes rush inside your house without anything being a mess. Also... ants drink water, just like everything else, for some reason people don't seem to realize this (I know I didn't til it started happening to me).
EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW I Would Throw Up!
i agree with #65, and i'm quite a neat freak and get ants in my room during certian seasons.
during the spring and summer those BIG black ants are everywhere,
those gross me out, if i had one of those in my mouth id probably throw up.
Delicioso!
That's actually happened to me before i took a huge bite in my pizza and yeah it was scary. Ants are evil! But!! At least you got some proteins for the day. It's a delicacy people, just chomp them down with some chocolate.
Though I've never had ants go in my water before that's pretty insane. Wash your cups better? O_O
Why are there ants in water?
Nvm. Why were there ants in YOUR water?
DIrty ass water, eh?
#71 - On 04/19/2009 at 6:27pm by nowayss
This is a spin-off of a contact lens story. Lame.
YDI.
This has totally happened to me!
I was sitting in my PR class and I had been drinking a coffee. I took a drink and thought I must have had some kind of grounds in it. When I went to pick up my cup at the end of class, sure enough there were ants :(
I love eating ants NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM
as long as you don't snort fire ants like "ozzy did" you'll be okay, but i would be completely grossed out too.
Just ants, stop bitching. It would actually be an FML if it was a glass of period blood filled with baby teeth.
okay, this is a little off topic but I gotta know, wtf is up with people creating a link out of the words "water bottles" or something and then when you click it just goes to a bunch of promotional links like "19% off of promotional water bottles!"??? Do they get paid for it? Does fmylife.com get paid for it or something?
Lol at #76. Seriously, if your mouth was full or ant bites or you had to actually watch as they went into your mouth, then it might be close to FML. But you didn't even really notice until the next morning. Stop being a baby.
#77 It's not the people doing it, but probably fmylife.com as an advertising/funding method for their site. I personally don't see it which might be because of my javascript/adware/virus blockers, so if it isn't fmylife doing it then you might just have spyware or something on your computer.
That exact same thing happened to me, except it was with a Gatorade bottle and chunks of mold instead.
How could that be ignored?
that is my worst nightmare everytime i put a glass of water on the floor beside the bed at my bf's place.
#81 - On 04/19/2009 at 8:27pm by andrea863
Even when we had ant problems, they'd never go for the water.
Ants will go towards water if the water is sweet.
Ew. Now you know, if there's something in your water, don't ignore it. YDI.
#84 - On 04/19/2009 at 9:31pm by emolilyx
Thats happened to me before...it sucked.
You sure it wasn't soda? ... ants usually don't voluntarily drown themselves for water.
Eh, not that big a deal. They're good for ya.
That said, you're either living in a den of ant nests or a fucking slob. But that is pretty nasty.
I can only drink out of bottles with lids because I'm afraid that bugs are going to get in my drink
#89 - On 04/19/2009 at 11:59pm by peace_out7
Fake. Ants never go for water. They usually only go for junk food and sugary stuff.
#90 - On 04/20/2009 at 12:06am by Dusa
This is sooo fake. Ants go for food that's been lying around...not water. And plus, I've had water sat for a few days before and ants were never in there. Next time you put up a FML, try to make it more realistic.
#91 - On 04/20/2009 at 1:46am by shineyourlight_x
Maybe they had an ant problem?
But that's true, ants tend to AVOID water,
not swim in it.
Plus, dust. Ew.
To everyone that is saying "fake", you are wrong. After an ant eats, it must drink water. This cup must have been the closest source of it. Also, it has nothing to do with the cleanliness of the place. Ants can infest anyone's home, even if they are overly hygienic.
wait can i just say that i do that too and i always try to look in and im deathly afraid of ants ahh this is so weird but im so scared this is gonna happen that i close my teeth and drink throu my teeth. not even ant but like bug but ants are the worst.
and ahhhh one time i woke up and there was an ant in my water
and just now there were some in my toilet
wtf?!
dont they hate water...
#94 - On 04/20/2009 at 6:01pm by threeOHthree
Everyone accidentally swallows an insect at least once in their life.
Well look at the brighter side at least it wasn't some type of roach or bigger insect than ants. That would of been more gross...ehhh....
fuck thats gross , but like dude or dudet , clean ur room .
i dont think ants would go in water cause it has no fliping tastte .
:|
anywayzzzz , im done blappping . peaccce
That's pretty disgusting. Don't you look at what you put in your mouth?
#98 - On 04/20/2009 at 11:18pm by Funtertaining11
sadly, that just happened to me, except it was the caffeinated soda that was supposed to be keeping me awake to write a paper.
rofl 75.
but seriously, WTF?
HAH like #1, nothing a little protean will do! lol FYL!
See, that's why I keep a water /bottle/ by my bedside.
What was in the water that made the ants want to go in? Unless it had a flavor (especially if it had sugar), they wouldn't care for it.
Do you ever clean your room?
ewwww thats sick i literally just like, threw up
i think the same thing happened to me once, but with a can of ginger ale. i hate ants SO MUCH. earlier today, i found a bunch of ants crawling around under my matress and i almost got sick. :[
I'm not sure if someone already explained this for you guys but, YOUR ROOM DOESN'T HAVE TO BE DIRTY TO HAVE ANTS! In my neighborhood (thats right not just my house) we all have an ant problem, all of the houses! They are crazy and we spray and spray and have to keep everything in the fridge. They aren't that bad now but when we first moved in it was like wtf? Whats up with these ants? And the ants will go for just the water itself, try leaving a glass of water outside, they need water too.
So I don't know if her/his room has food or candy (or dead things?) but if it does they deserved it, if it doesn't (thank god) then that sucks to drink ants but it could be worse, fleas can carry tapeworms.
Thank you, 106/xMooMoox. In our place, even though it's quite clean 99% of the time, if you leave something out for fifteen minutes it gets ants, and god help you if you accidentally leave a plate out from dinner by mistake. Protip: Cinnamon. Ants appear to really hate cinnamon. I put it on my windows/doors/etc., as well as in a few of the cabinets containing bread or cereal, and it keeps a good chunk of them out. Now if only I knew where all the cracks and crevices were.
Anyways, this has happened to me before, except it was Arizona-brand tea, and I'm not actually sure if I swallowed any ants... I just noticed them after drinking it for a little while. There were about 35 of the things and a third of them were still moving around on the rim and whatnot. Normally I'm paranoid about my food/drinks, and check them regularly, but until then I was never really worried about something I had JUST POURED and left alone for SIX MINUTES, barring when I was in a strange place/with strange people.
And, amusing anecdote, my dad was giving the cat some treats and suddenly noticed things moving in his palm. The insidious little shits had crawled into a mostly sealed bag, and he felt like things were crawling on him for HOURS. XD
...not to mention the bees in our raspberries. But that wasn't our neighborhood so much as it was the market...

Also, at my g-rents' house, and at our house slightly less often, we have ants at our sinks a lot. The only interesting things there would be the water itself and soap. Ants are living creatures, and as far as I know, all living creatures need water. 105/106/WHATEVER YOU ARE, moomoo, stupid comments, I thank you for making that point as well. Usually they can manage to get water elsewhere, I suppose, but hey. I guess sometimes it's too large a body of water.
But seriously, what the fuck is up with the comments? I posted earlier mentioning 106, when I checked again /I/ was 106, and the post I mentioned was 105, and so I edited it only to find that they were 106 again and I was back at 107. What the hell?
Edit: AND NOW IT'S 105 AGAIN! WTF?!?!
Edit2: ...and back at 106...I give up. XD
I can't believe how many people are saying "Ants? Really? They don't do that." Yeah. Yeah they do.
I also can't believe how many people are shocked that you didn't check it. If it's the middle of the night and you're half asleep, you're not going to turn the lights on and stare in your drink before you drink it.
I feel for you, OP. I've had it happen with ants, asian ladybeetles, and once with a moth. It's disgusting.
Which is why I keep a water bottle next to my bed. A sealable water bottle. Instead of a completely open cup. FYL, but YDI.
omgomgomg that one made me gasp and want to puke. fyl now im always checking my water before i drink it if I have any.
