Prejudice

Today, I found the courage to tell my parents about my boyfriend. They simply reacted by lecturing me about how much he'll ruin my life, and how much they don't like him. They haven't met him yet. FML

Don't even let it faze you. Enjoy being in a relationship and don't focus too much on them because they're being really unreasonable.

overprotective parents are tough to deal with, but be patient and don't give up on your life.

Not usually, but the basics are good to know in the long run. Just giving the person advice so she doesn't make the same mistake again in the future.

Its like saying "loose" when you mean "lose" or "too" when you mean "to." The basics are important because it usually totally changes the definition of a sentence. Small things like periods in quotations at the end of quotes and that kind of stuff doesn't matter on here usually.

This is just like my parents. FYL, OP.

Going by the stats, they do have a 50/50 chance of being correct.

Your math is flawed. You're assuming that the circumstances are controlled completely by chance. which they rarely are in the physical universe we occupy. Just a for instance, the guy probably has a track record of either being a good guy or a bad guy which skews the odds in one direction or the other. Just because there is two outcomes doesn't mean the odds are 50/50. You must factor in all the possible mitigating factors to obtain the true odds. which as I said before is rarely if not ever 50/50. argument slain.

Cool story dude. Noted and forgotten.

Everything is chance. Even if it isn't 50/50

OP, I am literally going through the exact same thing. My mom dislikes my boyfriend and keeps making remarks on how our relationship will fail; and she too, has not met my boyfriend. Honestly, don't let it get to you. I was letting my mom's opinion and remarks fill my head and I argued with my boyfriend over it. But I realized what I was doing before it was too late. My mom isn't in the relationship, therefore her opinion isn't what counts. I hope you don't let it bother you too much. If your boyfriend makes you happy, that's all that counts. Best of luck.

Parents... Always protective of their kids. Your parents are no different

No, what OP's parents said was over the top. They haven't even meet the guy yet and they're already bashing him. That's not being protective, that's being overprotective and jugemental. I feel bad for you OP, as long as he makes you happy try not to worry about what your parents think.

Just ignore them and keep doing you.
