Don't worry - same happened to me. He married the other girl, then divorced, hooked up with me for about a year, but left again because he was still afraid, married someone else. When I found him fourteen years later, he was divorced again, penniless, bald, near homeless, living with two stinking mangey dogs that his ex-wife wouldn't take with her, had tried committing suicide with a pair of dull scissors, and was working for about 6.50 an hour as a security guard. It was wonderful.
