Today, I woke up and noticed my son was not in his bedroom. Thinking he had ran away, I reported him missing and called all my relatives. After 3 hours, my son walked in the door. He was at his friends house where I dropped him off last night. My 14 year old told me to lay off the vodka. FML

#67 - On 08/11/2009 at 8:07pm by SimpleSimon

Holy shit woman. Why do you automatically think he ran away? Are you that bad of a parent or is your household that bad of a place to be? Sounds like you need some changes.

#4 - On 08/11/2009 at 5:05pm by ToastedOats

oddly enough, my mom did something similar to me once... me & my brother told her we were going shopping for halloween costumes & my cell phone died on the way... my mom thought we went to the park, when i didn't answer my phone, she called the cops & all my friends & family -.-

Wow that sucks but still ydi

#5 - On 08/11/2009 at 5:06pm by Scrantoncity

You just overreacted, it happens. And I'm guessing your son only made the alcohol comment because he's a TEENAGER, and teenagers like to make up crap like that.

However, it's also possible you're an alcoholic... but we'll never know.

#13 - On 08/11/2009 at 5:12pm by NobodysLover

YDI because your first thought was that he'd run away. Probably means you think there's a chance he would do something like that, which probably means you're not much of a parent.

#14 - On 08/11/2009 at 5:12pm by nonconscious

Exactly, especially if you ARE dipping so badly into vodka you can't even remember where you son is not even a day after you dropped him off (since you did it last night, and I would assume it's not night yet if you just woke up).

Really... he wasn't in his room, so automatically he has run away? What if he was just in the back yard or something?

....
still hilarious though
gotta love freak-out moms

your son had a sleepover?

#15 - On 08/11/2009 at 5:12pm by secretsxsecrets

Too many negative votes, comment buried. Show the comment.

im 14 too so when we go to a freands house with only one person we usually end up smoking weed are drinking lol not to say everyone does but most teens do

#31 - On 08/11/2009 at 5:29pm by jrl585

Yeah... my 13 year old brother has sleepovers with his 15 year old friend all the time. I don't know about his friend, but my brother doesn't do drugs.

#76 - On 08/11/2009 at 8:56pm by possumisawesome

im sorry dgw but i have to ask how old u are? it seems weed and alcohol have been the norm at sleep overs for the past 10 years at least, with alcohol bein the most prevalent.
also, i do have to contradict my earlier statements, how do we know she is a vodkaholic and what her son is saying isnt just a figure of speech?

#77 - On 08/11/2009 at 9:05pm by Starchild21

Starchild, I'm 18 if you'd look at my profile lol
I DID say I know it happens, but it's never happened with me, and I am by no means prudent. But the only time I've ever drank happened to be during parties... and none of them have involved friends. I KNOW my friends do things like that, but I don't think any of them ever did it at home during a sleepover, lol. Usually, they hold little "parties" of their own (and by that I mean a small gathering of a few people).

Also, true enough he could be just using a figure of speech, but damn, if she forgot already... I mean, when I stayed at my penpal's house, I forgot for a few moments where I was when I woke up, but remembered. If she couldn't remember for the whole day, it seems pretty likely she was under some sort of influence.

#82 - On 08/11/2009 at 9:30pm by DameGreyWulf

touche DGW touche lol
i admit i didnt look at ur profile, my bad
im sorry, perhaps i have experience bias, but i just cant believe u would stay so clean from drugs and alcohol, by that i mean not drinking with friends but drinking with others???? family??? or parties??? lol
also im surprised u actually met ur penpal, i think mine was on the other coast or somethin, its been so long

ur right on there bein a discrepancy of her forgetting for so long, but we dont take into account what she might have been doing or what not. op said she dropped him off the day before, its good reason to think she kept herself busy the entire day and was curious why the house was so quiet perhaps? shit i usually forget something all day until i go to sleep lol, not to mention i sometimes am about to throw trash and end up throwing my phone and keeping the trash lol. ah the human mind

#93 - On 08/11/2009 at 10:26pm by Starchild21

jrl, you go to a friends house (i take it the same gender as you) and you get high and drunk with that one person? wow, you must feel pretty cool. whenever you get high you have to have at least 3 other people around to giggle about shit with or else it's not even worth it. or do you not have that many friends?

#107 - On 08/12/2009 at 3:45am by dowhatiwant

i have alot of freands actually and if its just me and one person yea and its not usaually just three people there can be alot of people up bout 12 to 14 girls and dudes just passing a joint soooo yea

#119 - On 08/12/2009 at 5:26pm by jrl585

jlr, you are such a dirty liar! you have a couple of friends and theyre just stupid fickle posers like you. you just wanna be accepted but really you dont get high or fucked up in any way... loser

#120 - On 08/12/2009 at 5:49pm by nightswimmer

12-14 people?! lol you are a liar. with just one joint (which is what you said in your comment so don't even argue), each person would get one puff and unless you're able to ghost it for about a minute, it's not gonna get you high.

#121 - On 08/12/2009 at 8:16pm by dowhatiwant

Sounds like the OP has an early case of dementia or at least short-term memory loss. I recommend you get a video recorder because soon the cops won't come to your house or help you with missing persons if you call to often. Happened to a friend of mine so I know it's possible. The other thing is your son is right an dyou need to lay off the gin and juice.

#17 - On 08/11/2009 at 5:14pm by nomadxx7

YDI. Worst parent ever. Cut off/out your gonads, PLEASE, and send your kid to foster care. He'll be better off. You've already effed up your son's life by being in it.

#20 - On 08/11/2009 at 5:18pm by saddletramp

So this happened: You wake up see that your son is not in his room and automatically come to the conclusion that he ran away instead of thinkin of the chance that he is just out with his friends and then you report to the police and then he comes home from a friends house which you dropped him off.Yep lay of the fuckin vodka so you can perhaps remember your sons name.

#26 - On 08/11/2009 at 5:26pm by ragsy

Wow really? F Your life? Fhislife! My mom didn't know where i was and called the cops even though she is the one who dropped me off at my friends house the night before. Fhislife not yours.

#28 - On 08/11/2009 at 5:28pm by starbucks14

#29, the police has better things to worry about than someone who worries about their children when they're gone. Yeah, she's a complete airhead, but how can you take her child away when there are so many people who are hitting, having sex with and giving narcotics to their kids? Besides, foster homes are notoriously untrustworthy.

I doubt she's really an alcoholic. If you did something stupid it wouldn't be strange for someone to say that you've had one too many.

#39 - On 08/11/2009 at 5:56pm by pleasetryagain

The police don't really have many more things to worry about than this; it sounds like a perfectly clear example of child endangerment.

#63 - On 08/11/2009 at 7:32pm by Hoax

My mom does this all the time, except last time i was just sleeping in my bed when she reported me missing.

#30 - On 08/11/2009 at 5:29pm by CluelessOne

Wow this one is just sad....for the kid I mean.

#32 - On 08/11/2009 at 5:29pm by SOMAgirl

Now now, I may have popped off a bit too, but jeez guys, you're cuttin' in a little harsh over her just freaking out. Yes, it's more than a little sad, but moms... they freak out a lot. Calling child services? Throwing the kid in foster care?
Worst parent ever would have completely not cared even when the kid hadn't shown up for a week.

Also, I thought you couldn't report a missing person until they had been gone 24 hours? Prevents crap like this.

#33 - On 08/11/2009 at 5:31pm by DameGreyWulf

DGW i have to say she overreacted. the fbi stipulates a timeframe of 36 hours before an MPR, dont u think its a bit much to have done that, especially with a 14yo son? for all we know she woke up at 12pm and wondered why he wasnt in him room when he coulda been skating or chillin outside.

#60 - On 08/11/2009 at 7:17pm by Starchild21

#40 - On 08/11/2009 at 5:56pm by elliekinslurvsya

well, i guess you sort of care about your son if you tried to get him back right away. it may've worked if he actually ran away. but to automatically assume that he ran away is a bad sign, as is your 14-year-old having to tell you to lay off drinking. may want to consider some help?

#45 - On 08/11/2009 at 6:14pm by Qup

YDI for not thinking a little bit before calling the cops.
"stop drinking" and "stop smoking, or tell me where can i get some" are commun responses for non logical or non thoughfull responses. It's not saying someone is an alcoholic but asking people to think before acting or saying shit.

But it's normal to forget some actions during the night, and expect, like any other day (because of the routine), to find your child in his bed. Or to ask yourself where the fuck are you if you do not remember you're not at home in the morning. And that can happen without any alcohol :D

Anyway, YDI for over reacting.

first of all isnt the first reaction a bit of an overreaction? i mean doing a missing persons report makes it seem that he was missing for over 36 hours, just wtf kinda household do u run? and second his reference to the vodka makes it seem u enjoy the late nights to the point where u forget things, which is sweet but i recommend tequila lol

lol harry potter came out the closet haha

#81 - On 08/11/2009 at 9:19pm by Starchild21

If this is a result of you drinking too much, then it's a shame that your 14 year old son had to be the one to tell you about it. Since he said something, it shows it's really a problem and you need to lay off the fucking alcohol. Drinking and partying is all well and fine, but when you have kids they come first til they are adults, you made that decision when you had them and kept them. You can't tell you are drinking too much because you are drunk, unless your kid is just a shithead that's saying it to make you feel bad, take his word for it and stop drinking if you can't control it.

YDI

#86 - On 08/11/2009 at 9:50pm by RussianStarchild

really everyone? you think shes a drunk? she can type and get fmls posted, thats a sign shes inteligent. he was prolly making a joke. ya know, lol, haha, teehee, moohoohoo, all that. why is everyone so literal?...

#87 - On 08/11/2009 at 10:03pm by nightswimmer

You don't have to be drunk all the time to be A drunk really. I know an elementary school teacher who is pretty intelligent, aside from her major drinking problem.
And being able to get an FML posted is not a sign of intelligence...in fact in a lot of cases, it's a lack of intelligence that produced the FML to begin with.

Her entire FML suggests she could be a drunk. Her first reaction was he had run away, which would be normal in a shitty household where that happens a lot, or is threatened a lot. Even if that's not true, after a few minutes you might be a bit more logical and NOT called the cops until you checked with relatives, and friends. I am surprised the kid doesn't have a cell phone anyways. She even dropped her son off at his friend's house, then forgot. how could you forget something like that...or at least not remember shortly after you thought he was missing?

I don't think this was a cutesy joke made by her son...if it was, then thats not a FML

#91 - On 08/11/2009 at 10:15pm by KarasuFyre

wel l know it doesnt make her smart, but 80% of the fmls submitted are rejected so you have to have a certain amount of skill to get one on the site. plus she thought of doing this instead of drinking more. my point was l just thing the kid was being a sarcastic ass like a lot of 14 year olds are and that even if she is a drinker, she not a bad parent. she dropped her kid off at a friends at least. maybe she was a naughty teen so assumed the worst, or didnt think it nessecary to write all the tiny details? ldk tho

I really hope your kid was joking with the vodka comment, otherwise I hope your son gets out of your house ASAP.

I hate alcoholic parents with a passion. And yes, you are alcoholic if you drink so much that you can't even remember taking your son to his friends house the night before. I suppose it could be a one time thing.... but I doubt it.

#97 - On 08/11/2009 at 11:05pm by genius_man16

Umm, no. She needs him in the house to be the responsible one LOL. Stop being one of those arrogant "my kid knows nothing and I know it all" parents. You deserve a good punch in the face.

#111 - On 08/12/2009 at 4:06am by raiderh808

You need to get some help, and get your sons help as well. They'll need it, due to growing up in a household where you forget where they are, then freak out in such a manner - and even moreso if you're an alcoholic. What have you done to him to make you think that he'd run away? Kids don't just do that for no reason. (And I should know.)

Fyi, for some of the comments, if there is a teenaged kid involved, the police will come and check it out. My alcoholic father used to report "my" car stolen when I'd be out with it, if he were mad at me or felt I shouldn't be away from home. (Even if I was just taking it to work, as agreed, and ran late because it took us longer to clean up and leave.)

#98 - On 08/11/2009 at 11:34pm by Jaguaress

Not to defend this person, who really needs to chill out and is a total psycho, but sometimes kids DO run away for "no" reason, at least not a reason parent-related...i ran away when i was 15, and yes my mom WAS overbearing, but not an alcoholic or abusive, and the biggest reason i ran away was that i did lots of drugs. so um yeah..

#100 - On 08/11/2009 at 11:48pm by hawkloverr

You son is 14 and you called the police when you didn't see him there in the morning? He wasn't even missing a day. I mean, seriously, that's crazy. Add to it that you dropped him off where he was? I feel SOOOO sorry for your son, and I hope I am never as dumb and awful as that.

I'm calling BS i'm pretty sure you're suppose to wait 24 hours before you can file a missing persons report.

#118 - On 08/12/2009 at 3:24pm by CaptainPat

no not really my sister ran away once and the cops told my parents that they have to wait 5 hours? to report her missing. (somewhere around there but it was not 24 hours)

technically you're supposed to, but if the "missing person" is underage, I think they'll take the report anyway and at least look into. (Maybe just not start actually looking for the person until it's been 24 hours)

The only thing worse than an irresponsible mom is an irresponsible mom who overreacts.
