@OP: Whatever (If anything) you got from the iTunes Music Store you can get back by asking iTunes Customer Service. I had to do it 3 times and every time it has worked with just a few missing songs (No longer sold in iTMS.)
Even then, I'm sure he could recover them from his computer. The OP should go through the iTunes folders on his computer (or hit "Search" and type in a song name).

And it should be anyway (Windows does it automatically for you, but without Shadow Explorer, if you're not paying 50 extra you might as well not back anything up...shadow is free) Unless you have Mac. No, if you buy the Beatles' CDs from a store, legally, and rip them to your iTunes, which is what I'm assuming she did, there is nothing bad about that. That is in fact exactly what I've done. And the Beatles probably get more money from the direct CD sales than they would through iTunes.
In other news, according to theBeatles.com, there have been talks about releasing a digital catalogue of the Beatles' music (you know, like through iTunes) on the same day Beatles' Rock Band comes out. 09/09/09!

Yes it is, but some times generalizations are right on the money. This is one of those cases. If you want to consider yourself as a real appreciator of music, it might be a good idea to find some stuff that you haven't just heard off the radio. Try seeing performances of bands you've never heard of and making your own judgments about what you think is good and isn't instead of being spoon-fed by what's presented as "popular." There is so much talent in this country and around the world that is under appreciated because no one takes the time to look for it. Although the OP seems guilty of not seeking out his own musical tastes as well.
You ever consider that people who like pop often like more than one kind of music? And really, what's with people having such judgmental views because other people like to listen to genres/songs/bands/whatever that you don't like? They covered so many genres of music in just one album. I don't know any band that inventive. The Beatles were inventors, the Jonas Brothers just mass produce and spit out what the public wants. But yes, to the people who say they hate all pop music, the Beatles are considered pop. They have to be, as no other band has achieved as much fame and recognition as they have.

okay xanth i agree with you because many of those atrist's that do this popular top 40 stuff use voice enhancement constantly use hit a button for a beat synthesizers and rarely write their own music so they can't really be called artist's because they dont really create the art the programs and the person that wrote the song created the art im going use an example take the who's behind blue eye's and brttney spears hit me one more time
the who's song written straight the heart of the singer about himself and his life, and while doesnt as complicated riffs as much there other and say the rolling stones, it uses little of synthaseizers no kind of enhancement as there isnt a whole lot of different between the live and studio versions
now its different with brittney, her song was more then likely written for her by another party and has mostly to do with sex, and uses little in the way any kind of instrument besides a beat box, also you can hear allot of voice enhancement because of the disparity between the studio and live verisions.

This could have been avoided and can be in the future if you set up different user accounts on your computer and password protect yours (and as long as your sister isn't system admin).
I agree, nice music library. And all the music should be in the recycle bin anyway. Even if it's not, that sounds like a lot of music, so you could use a file recovery software to get it back since most of it probably hasn't been saved over. Still sucks. I would get her back twelve fold. Maybe some sort of ironic punishment involving playing your music very loudly with the speakers pointing towards her wall.

That would take FOREVER. I have nearly 500 Beatles songs, and I'm still missing a few albums and compilations. The Rollings Stones have about 25 albums, not including compilations. That doesn't include demos, mono mixes, and other rare versions. Even if you wanted to make it easy on yourself and buy it on iTunes, you couldn't get them all, especially not the Beatles. It's not all avaialble, and you would probably go broke trying to replace thousands of songs. Torrents don't have everything either. It takes a while to hunt some of these down again.
214: Beg to differ on your YDI comment. It does make it worse if the music was replaced with music she doesn't like (or, in this case, something you can barely call "music"). If she deleted it and replaced with music the OP liked, it'd suck, but not *as* bad - at least she has a few more songs she can stand listening to. You're not understanding. The OP's sister didn't like what she listens to. She decided to delete everything from her iTunes and replace it with songs she likes, but not songs the OP likes. Meaning not only did the OP lose everything she likes in her choice of music, but also has to deal with music she detests.
Just simply deleting it is not going to make up for the fact that her sister deleted everything. It's basically a situation where you have your most valued possesion and your sibling thought it look weird. Doing of such, she replaced it with a rock she thought looked nice, but you see a rock.

She deleted it off iTunes or she emptied it into the bin and then deleted it off there? If yes you can still find the folder iTunes saves the songs in, which is usually in the My Documents folder on the C drive. If she didnt delete that one a well, then you can just put your music back on...
this is true, i have had to do it before. when you open iTunes, go to File, then Add Folder to Library. then select the folder with all your music in it. Just make sure you delete your sister's crappy music first.

Excellent music taste. Check your computer's Recycling Bin (Windows) or Trash (Mac). Chances are if your sister is so brain dead she filled your computer with that bile, she probably didnt know how to completely delete it. Also, It's quite possible she left it in the original destination folders, but just removed it from the library, which is an easy fix.

i'm all for not hating on her taste in music(despite the occasional migraine i get from hearing that stuff), but goddamn. unless she only deleted it off itunes instead of your whole computer, i say delete her library.
No, delete parts of her library (her favorites) and upload your music to her collection so she has to sift through it for a while to get it back to its original crappy state. Then tell the parents and get her grounded for life. Then once she's grounded hide a speaker in her room (like under her bed) and blast your music from it when she's dead asleep like at 1 am or something. Attach a note to the speaker saying "just helping you out with your taste in music!" so when she finds it you get an extra word in. But make sure you write it in her handwriting so when she tells your parents what you did you can say she clearly wrote it herself an you just lost your speaker or maybe she stole it to get you in trouble. If it helps, there is a program to download called iDump or MediaWidgit, and it is used with iTunes. You plug in your iPod to it, and it shows the list of songs from your iPod, which you can put back into your iTunes.

That sucks, big time. Well it also depends on how many songs you had. I've been adding songs to my iTunes for the last 3 years, now I have almost 7,000 songs. I would just die if that happened to me. If those albums were as important to you as you say, at least you would have made a copy of them, in an external disk or something, since the computer could crash at anytime.

And to everyone that's gonna go "Beatles are the greatest rock band ever," no, they most definitely aren't. All their songs are terribly simple. Jimi Hendrix learned some of their songs the day they came out and played them live that very night. If they hadn't been from Britain with their little haircuts that made girls go nuts they would never have been anything. Aka, Jonas Bros (minus the British part) 60 years ago.

JBs are indeed very musically talented, especially for their age. But The Beatles, to me, we're flawless. Yeah, their songs were simple, but that was the beauty of it. Everyone loved them, unlike JBs, because their songs were catchy, intelligent and beautiful. And most importantely, revolutionary for their genre of music, and all music thereafter - I don't believe the JBs have (yet) re-established the musical industry. 60 years later, the Beatles are still on everyone's playlist. 2069, I doubt you'll hear tranquil muzac covers on 'Burning Up' in every department store.
So, songs like Strawberry Fields Forever, Penny Lane, Eleanor Rigby, I am the Walrus, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Come Together, etc. are simple? Or have you never heard of them. I would guess the later, since the musical complexity of some of these songs are damn near sui generis, and you talk like a tool.

If you bought your music from I tunes just plug in your iPod and go file transfer purchases from ipod. Do this before it syncs and after you've erased the songs your sister put on. If you use another source you should still have the music in that sources library. But FYL

I don't know how I'm going to deal with it when I have children (because, judging from the past few years, I only see it getting worse). But yeah, as other people have said, if all that music is still on your iPod, you can put it back on your iTunes. I'm not sure how like, iDump or programs like that work, but I did the same thing without needing any programs. Something about setting the iPod to work as an external drive...don't really remember, it was a while ago. The iDump thing is probably a lot easier lol. Anyway, good luck getting your music back!

If you do a search in your computer for "Beatles" or one of the others you'll see the files are still in your music library, just not in the iTunes application. Re-open the files and they'll all be back to normal, just without the playlists or playcount.

You, my friend, have never heard The Beatles if you think their songs were simple...spend some time listening to Abbey Road and The White Album. "Come Together" alone builds on and complicates the tradition of blues/R&B music by merging it with with rock and roll in a way that no band before or since has really been able to do--Chuck Berry even sued them for it. And it was mainstream! And they wrote whole albums of good music! These days, the record industry has no interest in promoting the creation of real art. Since most people simply purchase individual mp3s, the record companies make more money if artists just churn out one hit single per album. They rush the production process (time is money!), and so most albums now contain one or two catchy songs and a whole bunch of drivel, and those catchy songs tend to be pretty formulaic--very rarely does anyone attempt to do anything like what the Beatles did. What gets me is that you criticize The Beatles for having "simple" songs and yet you say Britney has a good album. Her songs are the definition of formulaic pop.
If I were you, I would smack that girl (I'm not condoning that, but I HATE the Jonas Brothers). The bands you had are all legendary.

Your sister sounds very self-centred. At fourteen I would never have tried that shit! However at 14 The Beatles and The Grateful Dead were my favourite bands and my mother raised me on the Rolling Stones, so perhaps I am misinformed as to how the majority of my fellow teenagers think and behave.
I totally get that! I was raised on The Who, and I'd be asking all the kids "Hey, have you seen Tommy?" and they'd reply with something along the lines of "You mean Tommy Boy?" I always felt so out of touch, so I tried to buy a TLC album because all the kids were talking about it, and I hated it.
On the flip side, I like a wide variety of music from the Pillows to The Hard Lessons to Panic and of course the classic rock as well. I like the Beatles, but I also get very annoyed by some people who use their taste in music to raise themselves on a pedistal, and some Beatles fans a VERY bad about that (not all, mind you). I have a friend who is really into all the legends, but he won't give anything new a try and kinda gets this pompous attitude about what everybody else is into.

Look, the girl is 14. Her taste in music sucks, but she is also 14. Most 14 year olds suck when it comes to music, because they're in middle school or freshman year. This doesn't excuse her deleting at all. But her taste in music makes sense for her age, as sad as that is.
Well that could be prevented by a password, and if you have an ipod I'm sure all the songs are still on it which you can transfer back to your library using a program called senuti. But anyone who thinks they have a right to destroy or erase other peoples stuff just because they think it's weird need to be taught that it's the most annoying thing ever. If she just deleted it off of iTunes, then the music is still in folders on your computer (probably "My Music" or "Your Name" -> "Music" ) so you can go on iTunes, click file, add folder, then choose the folder with all of your music in it and it will all be added back to iTunes.
If for some reason she deleted the files as well, they're probably still in the recycle bin. Just highlight all of them, right click, and choose Restore. Then they'll be back in their original folder & just follow the above steps.
If she's a computer geek and remembered to delete them out of the recycle bin as well, there are programs you can find online that let you rip music from your iPod to your computer. Just google 'music ipod to computer' and it should come up with a few.
Hope this helps! Your music sounds awesome! but you should be able to get it all back, so don't worry!!

if you still have the music on your iPod you should be able to transfer it all back onto iTunes, even if it requires a little rule bending. i managed to get all my music off my iPod and back onto my computer after a crash. you should be able to do this too. hope i am not being redundant...

I hate that band now. I used to worship them, but thank god for my love of conspiricy theories, I found Paul is Dead and started listening to the Beatles for clues, and even watched "A Hard Day's Night" (pre-66, really didn't help.) and "Yellow Submarine", when I heard "Sgt Pepper", they became a softer Led Zep to me. They led to the Doors, who led to the Stones, who led to The Who, who led to the Dead, who led to Queen, etc.
I made this when I still liked them, which really wasn't that long ago. And, I'm out of my angsty Slipknot age, but don't knock Slipknot, I still like them.

If you don't want to go through a lot of trouble, i know exactly how to get all of your music back without fussing with itunes store and what not. Simply:
1. Open your itunes.
2. Open your reclying Bin (All of your deleted music should be there)
3. Hold down the left Click on your mouse in the right bottom corner and highlight it all
4. Now click on any part of the highlighted section and drag it onto itunes.
-Everything should then be restored.

Awwwww, OP, what a blow. As an old fart who walks around everywhere with my earbuds and my Jesus phone, I found that this is actually the first FML I have read in a while that left me feeling sort of empathetic, with the exception of that person who basically posted the same shit 2 days ago about their iTunes library - but we aren't giving out awards here for originality so..
A couple of observations and maybe some suggestions, we'll see what happens...
1) Since I know that, at minimum, The Beatles aren't available for purchase online in the US, I have to assume that you either a) downloaded the songs from a CD that you purchased, b) ripped the songs from a file-sharing site (gasp, watch out for the RIAA), or c) paid pennies on the dollar for songs from overseas websites (shout out to Russia and our friends at mp3search.ru). If the answer is a), then you just have some work to do transferring your songs back to the computer. If not, search to see if the files are still on your computer - maybe they were just deleted from the view in the library.
2) As a Mac and PC user, I know that both OS X and every flavor of Windows since 3.11 allow you to set up your own user account and password. Now, I only use iTunes on the Mac so maybe a PC person knows something else, but the iTunes library is stored in the user profile - so each user can have their own library. Setup your own account and don't give that little bitch your password!
3) Back-up your music. Especially if you don't own the CDs. Hell, you can buy a TB of storage these days for less than a song on iTunes. Ok, not really, but storage is pretty cheap. Oh, in case you don't know how much a song on iTunes cost because, well ya know (pirated music...shhhhhhhh), it's $1.99 for most these days but you can still score some songs for $0.99 depending on the format, etc...
4) Erase all that little bitches music and clear the library before you do anything else! Revenge does make you feel better no matter what anyone else says. Where did she get the money for all that music (oh, right, shhhhhhhhhh).
4) Are the earlier commenters right, OP? Is this just some feeble excuse to advertise your retro-hip '60's music fetish? Say it isn't so!!!!

Way I see it, the problem isn't just taste in music.
I listen to just about everything, some rock, some pop, some classical, a little folk, musicals etc etc. I'd be pissed as hell if someone deleted my library, particularly since I don't have most of the original CDs anymore, and even if I did, more than half my music is downloaded from sites like itunes. Not only that, but I have near 8GB of music, and I'm not sure I could even FIND all the songs again, let alone the time, effort, etc it would take to get the library back together. Lucky for me, my siblings like my music.

Sales numbers determine who is more popular, not who is better. Those are matters of opinion, not fact. It's unfortunate that instead of the great songs of artists from the past are overshadowed by simple, meaningless, overly advertised pop music. As a fan of The Beatles, The Doors, The Rolling Stones etc., whose music was recorded almost two decades before my birth, it is my opinion that they are the better musicians, and there is nothing wrong or weird about it. Also, Jonas Brothers can just suck on the fact theat they are not real musicians. If it were not for Disney, they would be nowhere, where they should have stayed.

On the most fundamental level, if someone has music in their library---no matter what kind---it should not be deleted and replaced by music that he or she doesn't like. No one has the right to delete someone else's music simply because it's "weird".
Yes, we all know that it is 2009. Following your logic, we should have said on January first this year, "Okay, now we need to drop all of the music we listened to last year because we have to make sure that we just listen to what's new."

2) make sure she hasn't created her own playlist first, or hit all music and go through the list to find out if your stuff is still on there.
if its not, check the recycle bin... most people forget that when they delete something it goes in there and waits to be completely deleted!
if it is gone, you may still be able to get it back - there's a great little recovery program called Recuva - if you google for it its the one made by Piriform - and its free! just install and run, and it asks you what your looking for in a nice easy list format ;)

This may already have been mentioned, but the files are still on your computer because deleting them from iTunes doesn't remove them from the computer unless your sister put them in the Recycle Bin and clicked "Empty Recycle Bin", so you should be able to find them again. If she did click "Empty Recycle Bin" then I've no idea how to get them back and your life truly is f**ked - The Beatles, The Grateful Dead, The Doors and The Rolling Stones are legendary artists although personally I'm only a fan of The Grateful Dead and The Beatles.

I hate music snobs. I like and listen to The Beatles and Rolling Stones, and I respect them as musicians. But I also like listening to Britney Spears and, yes, even the Jonas Brothers. I also have Stevie Wonder, Franki Valli, Michael Jackson, Pavarotti and other musicians on my iTunes alongside the Backstreet Boys and Johnny Cash. Just because I listen to some newer bands and singers doesn't mean I don't know what 'real music' is.
To the OP: Yes it sucks that your sister deleted your music and she should be punished for that, but perhaps both of you should discuss your different tastes in music and show each other your favourite bands. Then she wouldn't think the Grateful Dead are weird and you might discover some recent 'pop' bands that you like.

This is worse if you had them on CD but your CD drive is broken, like mine. If they were on CD couldn't you import them back from your My Music folder? My iTunes saves all the songs I ever bought or uploaded from CDs into a separate folder. Unless your sister deleted the songs from there, in which case I feel sorry for you even more.

Real music, like Chili Peppers talk about real things, like them getting over drugs (Under the Bridge) and such. Their music is from the soul, for the soul, not from their producers, for their wallets. Their success is merely over monopolizing the youth of America, all from watching Disney channel and idolizing them, in addition to Disneys need to create soulless acting singers. In addition, none of these artists create songs that are none clique, they go fully mainstream, to profit the wallet, not developing their own styles.

I love the number of people who say that OP needs to lock their computer up with a password. There are some people who aren't allowed to password protect their computer as long as they live in their parents' home.
I wasn't allowed to ever password protect my computer, so my parents could always check what I'm doing on my computer because as my parents, it's their right to invade my privacy.
If I did put a password on it, I had to take it off, followed by being grounded for 2 weeks.
You can't always assume people have full range freedom of their stuff.
Oh and to all the people dissing Panic!, shut the fuck up. They were emulating The Beatles on their latest record and they did a pretty damn good job of it as well, save for a couple songs on the album. Not to mention they pretty much told their label to go fuck themselves when they were told to write more music similar to their first album. There are programs which can find deleted files on your computer. When you delete something you remove the name from the directory. You can pay for a program that will search your hard drive for files and give you the names. That way you will be able to undelete them.

easiest solution: open a previous iTunes library file. If you uploaded iTunes the standard way, the file should be under C:/Documents and Settings/(your username)/My Documents/My Music/iTunes.
You can either just open the standard file "iTunes Library.itl"; if that doesn't work, go into the folder C:/Documents and Settings/(your username)/My Documents/My Music/iTunes/Previous iTunes Libraries.
That may have an older version of your iTunes music than you want, but that's all you can do.

What I don't get is why people think the Jonas Brothers are going to be bigger than The Beatles, when anyone with a brain stem can see that each individual Beatle has more talent in his left testicle than the Jonas Brothers do throughout the whole band.
The Jonas Brothers have other people playing behind them (who get no credit by the way) consisting of a bass player, drummer, and LEAD GUITAR. That's right: they all supposedly play guitar, but obviously that's not the case if they have guys in the back playing all the hard parts to their OWN FUCKING SONGS.
By the way, those little girls who swear up and down that the Jonas Brothers are the best... it's REALLY disappointing that they're being spoon-fed all of this Disney shit instead of real music.

First, If you bought the songs on Ituns you can redownload them. (check out their website for help)
Second, If you ripped them off CD's you can't find Just use a torrent program. It's legal if you already own the digital rights.
Third, There are programs such as iDump (this one is good) that work great by ripping ti all off your ipod.
Fourth, I sympathize I listen to out there metal, classical and country music so my library has been mutilated before too. And again when my computer got a virus, and again when my parents got an external harddrive and decided i didn't need the music which must be on my laptop ( deserve it for not putting it on my laptop but oh well).

I showed a friend of mine Eclipse by Pink Floyd (in my mind it's one of the best songs ever) and she replied back over AIM telling me it was "weird" and she didn't like it. Recently i've tried to teach my boyfriend about some great artists in the 60s and 70s including the beatles, grateful dead, the doors, and the velvet underground because he said he wanted to learn about musical history. when i played my nico and the velevet underground cd for him he said that by musical history he meant what what lil wayne was doing in 2005.
