Today, I was passing a kidney stone. I had to go to the ER but had no one to take me, so I drove myself. They made me wait 3 hours because it was suspicious that someone in "so much pain" could drive. It was the largest stone that doctor had seen in his career. FML

Can you report that? If so, please do.

They probably thought you were just going to sell whatever they gave you on the street. Kids go crazy for urine retention medicine and extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy…

Ah, men...such *******. They can't even drive a car while passing a little kidney stone through their big uretra; imagine passing a big kidney stone through a woman's small uretra.

Ah the old "you don't look like you're in pain to me". How many unassisted births has this resulted in, I wonder?

Do you feel like a badass? because I would! if I had just drove myself to the damn hospital while passing a kidney stone that I ended up having to wait 3 hrs for medical care because of some shitty suspicion and it just so happened to be the biggest one the doctor had ever seen...that would've made my day

That is not acceptable. I work in ED and you cannot make someone wait because they seem like a drug seeker or something. Now if it was chaotic and whatnot (mind you, there are many different zones in the department), there was no choice but to make you wait to take care of more critical patients first. But if you mean they keep on pushing your chart to the back of the line or staff was just chilling with no patients around, that is a valid complaint. & for future reference, call and ambulance or a friend if needed! The last thing you want to do is aim to visit the ED, only to end up with a different chief complaint due to an accident.
