Riiiiight...

Today, I let out a big sigh after a long day. My mother, a "recovering" alcoholic, overheard and promptly used it as an excuse to go out and buy wine. Apparently, if I cared about her I wouldn't "spread the negativity" and she would still be sober. FML

I see you didn't use a comma in your username. That's it, I can't it anymore. You've driven me take up public masturbation once again. Good job. Before, I was on the road to recovery, but now a bunch of kids and old ladies are going to see me furiously bashing my man burrito in the middle of the street, and you're solely to blame. I hope you're proud of yourself, you terrible person, you.

Your mom is just looking for an excuse to drink. I have no doubt that even if you didn’t sigh she’d find a reason for wine. But something tells me you knew that.

Lock up the liquor cabinet before you tell her you’re following a man on Instagram!

don't get down, most people can't accept responsibility and like to blame others. if she cared about you she would stick to her commitments and not drink when she said she wouldn't. that may not be true but its equally true to what she said.

I highly recommend you explore Al-Anon, which is a support group for the family members of alcoholics. They will help you understand that no matter what your mother tells you, her relapse is NOT your fault. Alcohol is sinister and cunning, and alcoholics will justify a relapse for any reason they can come up with. Don't give up on her, it is a tough addiction, but sobriety can start again. Encourage her to go to a meeting and let her know you support her and love her. Good luck.

Was going to say the same thing! OP needs some support and insight to deal with this situation.

no, mom, you're just a drunk looking for an excuse. please don't try to guilt trip me for your failings.
