Today, I found out that conducting CPR and saving a man's life means nothing if you break his ribs. He is suing me for $10,000. FML

Welcome to the United States of America, the place where s robber can sue you because they injured themself robbing your house, and people sue you for saving their lives. Land of the free to have ****** up logic.

That's why you need to make sure your state has something along the lines of a Good Samaritan laws, in which you are protected from being sued if something like cracked or broken ribs happens. Honestly, any judge or jury that is a sane person just rule in your favor. That is one reason I am thinking of leaving human services (have a psychology degree and work with people all the time so I need CPR and first aid training) because people are too sue happy. If my training is out of date, can't be required to do anything. Let someone else do it. Would do it if a family member or friend.

in the UK I took for training. The trainer told us that if you don't break their ribs you aren't doing it properly. He also said that no one has ever successfully been sued for trying to save someone's life this way and breaking ribs. it would be laughed out of court. You saved someone's life OP. That is worth a lot.

I'm a firefighter in Austria and I the guy teaching me how to do CPR also told me that unless I break their ribs I'm not doing it correctly. Also here you can't sue someone for saving your life. You can sue someone for NOT doing CPR tho...

Remember, dead men file no lawsuits.

The US does have good Samaritan laws. I wouldn't think this lawsuit is going very far.

There are Good Samaritan laws that protect "good samaritans" from getting sued. I believe as long as you are able to prove that your actions prevented death then you won't be sued. I do, however, believe you should get a lawyer to help you though. Bc I'm pretty sure only some places Good Samaritan laws aren't universal

This post disturbed me so much that I️ actually looked something up on your behalf...Per Alaska Legal Resource Center AS 09.65.090 you are safe

That’s is the Alaska Statute number

CPR almost always breaks a few ribs. This probably won't even make it to court. just get a decent lawyer and they will make this go away
