It does suck that she happens to not like it, but I don't blame her for her response. You're married to her, and you never asked her how she feels about spa days before you bought her one? Some people find them immensely boring and useless and really wouldn't want to go to one. Some people don't like having manicures or pedicures or facials. I wouldn't like it either if my husband paid for something costly for me that I really don't like. It's a waste of good money.

It does suck that she rejected your sweet gesture. But coming from a woman's point of view.. It kind of hurts when the man who is supposed to love you doesn't have a fine tune to your likes and dislikes. If my boyfriend spent a lot of money on me but it was something that was completely out of my character, sure I would thank him for the gesture but I would also be pretty upset that he was so wrong about me/my interests.

I agree! I'd say FYL if they were dating, but you're married and have kids. If she's never expressed interest before, there's a slim chance she'd ever like it. He obviously didn't casually bring it up prior or else he'd know. Sucky situation, but YDI for not taking her interests into account! Even if it's a vacation, she's there with you! Things don't have to be a surprise to be great. Communicate!

God forbid he tries to do something nice. I've never heard of a woman not wanting to be pampered, even just for a short while, after always going above and beyond for her family.

I mean that's like getting a guy who isn't into sports NFL tickets. Just cause he's a guy doesn't mean he likes football, and if he doesn't like football he definitely doesn't want to sit through four hours of it even though NFL tickets are like $400. Same with a woman and spas... It's kinda like "oh you're a woman so you must like this stereotypical woman thing." Kind of insulting. YDI, but your intentions were good.

I don't understand how difficult it is to say "Hey baby, I was thinking of taking the kids for a few hours while you do something relaxing. What would you like to do for your alone time?" Not everything has to be a surprise.

So sounds like you can go to the spa and she can take the kids for a few hours. I'm not a massive fan on spa's but if my fiancé went out of his way to book me something to relax then I'll do it.

This is a case of someone doing something sweet and you whining about it. He obviously thought you needed the relaxing time to yourself and you are complaining about it. A man that goes out of his way to do that is showing how much he cares. Society is going down the crapper here

I get both point of views and it's hard to fault either. Wife could be a little bit more compationate about husband doing something nice instead of shutting him down immediately and the husband should know better that wife doesn't like spas.
