Today, my mom's guilt tripping reached a new level when she told me all she wanted for her birthday was for me to get over my anxiety disorder. FML

Well, as someone else with an anxiety disorder- there's part of your problem. I have enough issues with misplaced guilt and self-blaming for things I can't control without someone that is supposed to understand that sort of thing adding to that. I can't say if it's 100% the same for you or anyone else with anxiety, but even if it isn't, getting over anxiety takes time, professional help, a support system, and a HEALTHY home environment, starting with how family interacts with you. I'm sorry that your mom is very likely making things worse for you instead of better.

I'm sorry, but that is really bad. I've had an anxiety disorder for 12 years now. you don't get over it just like that, maybe not ever. Stay strong @OP things will get better, believe me.

Tell your mom to go on stage in karaoke night in front of every one and sing her favorite song.

Yes because people can magically get over disorders on command. That's a dumb thing to ask of you OP.

I'm so sorry to hear that. My mom doesn't believe that I have extreme anxiety. She thinks I fake it even though I have no reason to. Don't worry, you're not alone! Much love... <3

what an extremely unwise thing to say. that's just another thought to make you feel bad. I'd write her a sort letter explaining that. maybe a bulletpoint presentation to her email?

Not cool, OP's mom. Stand strong, fellow anxiety sufferer! Guilt tripping plus anxiety isn't good anway... Maybe you should tell your mother you got her an invisible flying unicorn for her birthday. Then she can have something else impossible.

OP, are you in therapy for your anxiety, and if so, do you feel it's helping at all? If no to either, suggest to your mother that if that's what she wants, she can get you therapy (or a different therapist) for her birthday. As long as she's offering and all. ;)

I think the mom meant that she wants her daughter not to have anxiety anymore. She must hate it for you. Hope you get better OP
