It's actually pretty common to start your period the day after general anaesthesia. It's probably the body deciding that a pregnancy would not be sustainable under such conditions. It happened to me each and every time. Try dealing with it on crutches... On the plus side, you are already on pain meds, so at least you won't feel the cramps as much.
I was going to say something along the same lines. I've gotten my period with nearly every extreme trauma my body has had, not just surgeries. My best advice to OP, go get some depends or the always protective underwear. When you're mobility is limited they are a life saver.
