Today, my allergies are killing me. I took a Benadryl to help, but the allergies are still here. I'm now chugging Mountain Dew at 9:30 in the morning to keep from falling asleep at my desk. Thanks for nothing Benadryl. FML

Non-drowsy is a better choice when you have to participate in, ya know, life.

Take a second generation antihistamine. Claritin and Alegra will give you relief with minimal drowsiness.

It's Benadryl. Even the non drowsy ones make you drowsy.

I can typically fight through drowsy pills but "non" drowsy benadryl hits me like a truck. KO me.

Those aren't strong enough for some people though. My dad has to take benadryl in the fall because clariton doesn't do enough. It sucks for the first couple of days but benadryl doesn't really make you sleepy after your body gets used to it

It's also important that you take second generations every day, they don't work nearly as well when taken "as needed." If you still have no benefit, a lot of people have success with daily intranasal corticosteroids, aka Flonase and whatever others are available over the counter.

I wouldn't suggest those. If OPs allergies are that bad like mine are, they should take Zyrtec. WAY better and on really bad allergy days, my eyes only itch a little.

I second the Zyrtec. I've been taking it daily for years for indoor and out door allergies.

I tried Zyrtec when I was younger, didn't help me. I take Claritin but it's super expensive. Everyone's different though. I recommend taking two allergy meds with different active ingredients. It's good for the occasional bad day. Be sure they're different active ingredients though or you might accidentally overdose...

I'm the same, I actually use Benadryl to help me fall asleep sometimes. Try something non drowsy next time. Also just for nasal congestion try Afrin, that stuff is the best.

Bwaha! Proof that there's a secret partnership between the producers of Benadryl, who are a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, and those of Mountain Dew (PepsiCo)! Get 'em nice and tired with the ol' Benedryl and then BAM!—you've increased the customer base for a certain neon green nectar, Mountain Dew. Some of the additional profit goes back to J&J, of course, and don't get me STARTED on the mind controlling agent added to the Mtn. Dew formula in 1961 (seriously, my tinfoil hat blocks my eyes a bit and makes it hard to type).

Take severe allergy sudafed. The box comes with a non drowsy and drowsy already in it.

I feel your pain. Get on a daily allergy medication it'll help.

Why would you take drowsy medication when you knew you had work to do early in the morning?

OP probably didn't realize it'd make them drowsy. I've made the same mistake once before, too.

There's anti-drowsy Benadryl Plus, works better during the day.
