Today's special, today we're trying something new. By new, do we mean that we're welcoming a lame artist? No. So, by new, do we mean publishing one of Charlie Sheen's tweets instead of an illustration? No. By new, do we mean that there's no "FML" in the title? Come on guys, a revolution needs to start somewhere, right? Even if it's a tiny little step. Oh, and do you know where Durham is?
What's your name and surname?
How old are you?
Where do you live?
What do you do for a living?
Web Designer / Illustrator
What's your story?
I grew up in New Jersey where I would draw on everything I could get my hands on. Later on, I realized that I could use my artistic skills along with technology and I started nerding out on digital mediums such as design and illustration. As technology moved forward, so did the ability for me to pursue my personal dream of creating and displaying my own comic to the world via the web.
What are your projects?
I am currently working on my personal webcomic at Ittydog.com. I also do poster illustrations and website designs at yazbo.com.
How can you be that talented?
A lot has to do with my support - mainly my wife, son and family. Also, there was a stretch of time when I stopped drawing and during that time I literally felt like I was missing something, so now my motto is - keep creating, constantly.
Can you tell us about your blog/website?
I started a webcomic this year called Ittydog. I like to describe it as a webcomic with ittydogs in them. Ittydog is a term I use to describe little dogs with big attitudes. The recurring character, Moz, is based off of my year old pomeranian. Although I do delve into humorous and weird things that are specific to ittydogs, I will also go into sometimes surreal and fantastical themes that have nothing specifically to do with dogs, they just act it out.
What inspires you?
That's a very big question. I am constantly inspired by other artists, most of which are "unknown". I have a humongous list of site feeds that i read through daily that I use both for entertainment and inspiration. But if I had to list off some artists off the top of my head I would say Banksy, Mike Mignola and Robert Crumb. Music is also a big inspiration for me - I am a huge Smiths fan and named my ittydog Moz after the former lead singer, Morrissey's nickname.
What makes you laugh the most?
Definitely my 10 year old son, his wit is leap years ahead of mine when I was his age and he constantly makes me giggle.
Why did you choose this FML?
Apart from it being funny to me, it hit home because I am Colombian and my wife is from England, so she is constantly trying to learn Spanish and I could envision something like this actually happen.
Do you have your own FML anecdote that you can share us?
I have one via my wife -- One day I was leaving college to catch the bus home. I saw it coming down the road, deciding I could make it to the bus stop on time, I began to sprint - checked over my shoulder to see where it was at which point I ran straight into a lamp post, knocking myself to the ground. Needless to say, I missed the bus - FML
